REVISED REVIEW

I spent 1 1/2 hours trying to get this unit to show a Region B - European - Blu Ray here in the U.S. No instructions on how to make it work anywhere: I went all over the internet, to the LG site, to Bombay Video. Nothing. It was boxed up and ready for RETURN when I got an email from the seller, Bombay, with very simple instructions on how to make it work. THE UNIIT - THANKS TO LG - IS BRILLIANT. Amazing picture and sound. DEAR BOMBAY... have some mercy on your customers and PUT THE SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX BEFORE YOU SEND...OR...IMMEDIATELY EMAIL THEM WITH INSTRUCTIONS. I have better things to do than to try to figure out how to make the damn thing work when my family is ready to watch a movie together.

Truly multi-region!

Upon receiving this player, I tried it with Blu-rays from Regions A & B, and DVDs from Regions 1 & 2. It was able to play all of them with no trouble! I was very happy as Region B Blu-rays are often rejected, even when a player says it is multi-region. This is a great buy for those of us with film collections from around the world. It is not the absolute best, top of the line in quality, but with an HDMI cable, the difference is not going to be noticeable at all to the untrained eye. I am so glad to be able to downsize from multiple players, to this one.

This is not a region free DVD player. It is also very loud when the disk starts spinning.

This player will play dvds and blu-rays, but it is kind of like watching a show on TV with little control over what goes on. For example, there is no zoom function with this player. Picture quality controls are provided in increments of four. If you want to control contrast, color, brightness, or sharpness you have 4 settings only for each function so you are stuck with 25% increments for each function. The reverse function sometimes does not work at all but when it does it skips badly. The same thing happens when you try to go forward slowly. If you want to repeat a short segment you are in for what I would call a blu-ray player from hell experience. You have to press about 6 different function buttons just to repeat a segment. The only way to find out where you are in a disc is to jump forward one chapter and the screen will then display what chapter you have jumped to. There are four different colored buttons at the bottom of the diminutive remote control: red, blue, yellow, green. These are completely functional in the sense that they are spring (or flexure) loaded. So you can press them if you like and dream about what effect they might have if they actually were electrically connected to something. After giving this player a decent trial period I decided that, for the benefit of my mental stability, my best bet was to take it out in my garage and give it a few good wacks with a 10 lb sledge hammer. I have found that this is a good way to fast forward the life expectancy of all kinds of crappy products. By the way, the red, blue, green, and yellow buttons on the remote actually were NOT electrically connected to anything. They serve absolutely no function and pressing them for the pure joy of pressing buttons gets old real fast.

Great DVD player. Truest “region free” player. Most of my foreign DVDs are not Blu-ray, so I don’t have mess with any settings to change the regional code. So it’s so easy and just insert and play between domestic and foreign DVDs. I’m glad that you can also setup to enjoy foreign Blu-ray DVDs, included with clear instructions. It has wonderful picture quality and nice and easy to use remote control. Very easy set up. It’s nice that it comes with the HDMI cable, too. You can connect the player to the internet if you want but will need an Ethernet cable since the device has no WiFi. I read some reviews that said that the device losing the region free program, because of recurrent automatic system updates from having internet connection. So I don’t recommend connecting it to the internet and just keeping it as a simple plug and play. It also seems to void any kind of LG product support, too.
