It's alright but if there were better alternatives I would go for them instead. The plastic top curves easily and as a result I have to be careful to support it by the edges. Pressure on the middle results in blocked laptop vents which defeats the whole purpose.
Also, the beads are Styrofoam and although they might theoretically be recyclable, that's clearly not going to happen. So a lot of waste will be produced. Considering using a hard bamboo cutting board and attaching a cushion to it instead :/
I purchased this for my grandmother and she loves it. She didn't like how hot her laptop made her legs to I got her this. She said it's comfortable and much cooler than having the laptop sit directly on your legs. It's fairly small though. She has a medium side laptop and the phone holder is covered so I think 12 - 13" laptop is the biggest you could use if you want to use the phone holder but otherwise fits a 15" laptop just fine but with the phone slit covered.
Depending on the design of your laptop, the grip bar at the back of the tray might not make contact with the underside of the laptop. My HP Elitebook sits firmly on this tray, but my wife's Lenovo slides around. Also, although comfortable, the cushioned underside actually results on your legs getting very warm after a while, just through insulation.
The area that supports the laptop became warped and because it now protrudes, I cannot comfortably rest my laptop on it. I tried multiple times to get in touch with the provider, and Amazon told me that they had contact LapGear regarding this issue, but there was no response.
We bought four of these desks to use as lap trays when we’re eating dinner in front of the tv. They were considerably less expensive than lap trays that are decorated and made for this purpose. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and easy to clean. They are also large enough to accommodate our dinner plates. They also work well for their intended purpose as a lap desk although I’ve only used them for writing etc., and not with a laptop. The only thing I’d change is to be able to have a colour option but that certainly doesn’t affect their utility.
If you have an older Thinkpad (like a W520), you're not gonna enjoy using this thing. Especially if you sit on a low surface like a futon, only propped up by a pillow as I do.
This lap desk is far too tall for that. My lap makes for a better desk than this thing when I slouch down on my bed, which defeats the entire purpose of this product, but oh well.
Anyway, my Thinkpad sits awkwardly on this thing. It's snug, but the battery juts out at the back. When I take the lap desk with laptop off my lap and put it beside me on the bed, the whole thing tilts back. Which makes using it on the bed while laying down next to it impossible. Again, it would be easier to just put the laptop directly on the bed; at least it won't tip backwards.
Oh, and there's a gross sticky portion near the top of this lap desk. Somehow adhesive got on it and created a disgusting sticky spot. Yuck. I did my best to scrub it off using rubbing alcohol but even that didn't work. So I'm guessing this thing is made of of awful, cheap plastic that you should not stick anything onto.
I suppose this thing is only useful to me if I'm sitting on a couch upright. Which defeats the whole point of this product for me because I want to use it on my bed.
This laptop desk is very lightweight. The base is more like a unfilled bean bag chair with some Styrofoam beads. I guess it conforms to your legs?
It had a loop handle on one side. There is a slot on the top of it to place a tablet or phone. This is only accessible with a smaller laptop (13.3") as the 15.6" covers it. There is a plastic bar that keeps the laptop from sliding down as well as a rubber piece at the top. (This piece does not stay on well as the adhesive is not very good).
Next time I would probably go with a style that can be raised up at different angles and allows for better circulation under the laptop. (Ours overheats on this sometimes). This one was purchased as it offered the beat value - even so I feel that they are overpriced for what it is.
It is as advertised. Always had the overheating problem with my laptop on my laps, and this helps. It's very light, the soft part sitting on the laps could have been filled a bit more but it's still very comfortable. You can tell it's not the best quality, but overall it serves the purpose and is useful.
