While I wouldn't recommend this product, if this does happen to you, don't bother trying to wipe it off with soap or automotive oil hand cleaner like I did, just resign yourself to wasting about a dozen paper towels, and keep your hands wet to help the dry paper towels in wiping this gunk off. Good luck to you, I'm going to hop in the shower and scrub the last of this out of my knuckle wrinkles.
And that led me to LavaLock. I wanted a black high heat silicone that I could use to cover the little nubs that are supposed to serve as legs on the cast iron cover. Wanted something 'food safe' just in case there were fumes or something.
So, it arrived. The tube comes with a spout that you can snip to control the amount of adhesive released. The fumes are very minimal. I was able to do this in the kitchen, at the table. Let the cast iron cover sit on the counter for 24 hours to fully cure. Then placed it on the cooktop. Right now the oven is at 350 degrees. I removed all the cast iron grills, took the middle piece and felt the four little dots of LavaLock I applied. They are not melting! They weren't even warm to the touch. And, best of all, the noisy rocking has stopped!
I've done a few different smokes with this stuff, each one being approximately 12 hours. The adhesive is still very much working and I've noticed no problems at all. A few more months may show a different result, but I'm quite happy with this product so far.
If it doesn't hold up then I'll likely have to use a higher grade, I just really wanted to use this one since both the adhesive and my smoker are black, and I don't really like the look of adding a bunch of red adhesive and messing up the nice look of my smoker.
