The Good: The characters are fresh and new. Kat is really charming. The animation is weirdly computer animated instead of the old drawn look, but it's not too distracting. The VO is WAY better than the earlier Layton games. The downloadable puzzles are fast and easy. It does add playtime retroactively. The outfit customization is a really fun touch. The Bad: If you're coming from other Professor Layton games, you're used to a certain "click anyone in the world and instantly get a puzzle" style of play. This game doesn't really do that. You can click on characters and just have them spout exposition at you, but leave without offering a puzzle, and it feels odd. The total number of puzzles in this game, including the DLC is higher than other Layton games, but the in-game puzzles during the long bouts of storyline feel pretty sparse at times.
Overall good game, but I wish the puzzles took higher priority over the exposition.
