By all means, if letters are messed up or missing, return the item. But don't assume this as your only teaching tool without adult interaction and input.
I also highly recommend Preschool Prep for teaching alpahbet, letter recognition and letter sounds. Once again, adult in put and interaction required.
This is also a great tool for a your Toddler's gross motor skills, putting the letters in correctly and pressing the letters and the music all note button for sounds/songs. Your kid(s) can also line the letters up in the correct order, make words, digraphs, and blends. This 'toy' is so much more than letter sounds.

Also... the magnets are nice and strong, plus they are covered... no little magnet pieces falling out like other magnet letters.
