3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly sight words; does not build on concepts; no variation in activities
Reviewed in the United States on 12 June 2019
I purchased this for my 4 year old who will be going into kindergarten in August. I also purchased the Learn to Read Activity Book (which I prefer). It does contain a lot of sight words, so if you’re looking more for cat, sat, rat, bat types of words, then this is not the book for you. It says sight words and phonics activity workbook, so I was expecting more words my child could pronounce phonetically, rather than most of it being aight words.
This book has the same activities for each word (a, all, am, and, are, at, be, big, by, can, come, do, for, go, has, have, he, here, I, in, is, it, jump, like, little, look, me, my, nice, no, not, one, our, out, play, run, said, see, she, the, to, up, was, we, went, what, where, with, yes, you). The child first traces the word and says it aloud. Then the child writes the word, and then completes a sentence with the word. This is followed by grabbing a crayon and coloring the boxes with the word. Lastly the child writes a sentence using the word, and draws a picture. Since my child is a beginning reader, she doesn’t have the word knowledge yet for writing sentences. I was expecting this book to build on concepts. In terms of the sentences the child completes, I would have preferred simple sentences we could sound out together, so that she could feel like she was learning to read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Reviewed in the United States on 23 January 2020
I'm actually very disappointed in this purchase. I read the reviews and was very excited. I have a 5 year old daughter and wanted to work with her at home. I purchased this book and what I received is not what I expected. Looking at all the reviews and I'm a little confused on how I received something so different. I took a picture of the cover and then a picture of what is inside. Every single page is a different career as pictured above. There are no puzzles or activities. Nowhere for my daughter to even write anything. If I wished to purchase a coloring book I would have went to the dollar store and bought 6 and spent the same amount as I did for this book. Very disappointed.
