About the Author
Fascinated by print media since childhood, Mehdi El Kanafi, alongside Nicolas Courcier, wasted no time in launching his first magazine, Console Syndrome, in 2004. After five issues with a distribution limited to Toulouse, France, he and Nicolas Courcier decided to create a publishing house under the same name. One year later, their small business was acquired by Pix'n Love, a major publisher of books on video games. Over the next four years in the world of publishing, Mehdi published more than twenty works on major video game series, and co-wrote several of those works: Zelda. Chronicles of a

A Nice Collector's Item, But Feels Somewhat Lacking...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 13 July 2021Verified Purchase
Not a bad book, but there are a few liberties taken with the plot summary as well as minor errors in details. The book suffers a little from some phrases not translating so well to English and the fact that multiple authors were involved resulted in quite a lot of needless repetition of points or explanations. The Decryption section was quite good and offered some lesser-known information, though tending to veer quite far from the subject of Final Fantasy IX for some time before returning to make some kind of point. More generally, the price is a bit steep for the amount of quality content included around the actual subject. The book looks good and is well formatted, but was a little disappointing in the end.

Academic thesis on a classic game
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 25 August 2021Verified Purchase
What stuck me most about this book was its academic and literary nature; this is a thesis on FF IX and as such covers the creation of, and influences on, the game.
The authors have dedicated themselves to a wider look at FF IX and the creators. There is also a historical focus on the influences of Greek tredgedy and comedy.
This is NOT a simple 'fan' book; there are no images, stills or illustrations (probably a licensing issue as not an in official Square product). However, it's an interesting read, and while I do not agree with all analysis (some too subjective), I have been able to consider a classic from an alternative perspective.
I recommend it if you're interested in looking at FF IX from a more academic, theoretical and philosophical perspective.

It’s just awesome!

This book adds some interesting detail and facts about the game and everything revolving around it. If you like knowing the ends and outs of the development ideas and everything else. I would recommend it.
