Product description
SM212 cover is designed by Samotech to allow Hue dimmer to be placed on top of existing light switches. Thus keeping the dimmer where it should belong and protecting the light switch from an accidental switch off at the same time. As it stands smart bulbs will only work if they are supplied with the electricity. Switching off the main light switch disconnects the smart bulbs and renders the Hue features useless. SM212 cover helps to keep your Hue routines operational and protect the bulbs from an accidental power cut.
The SM212 simply attaches magnetically to the cover plate screws, no tools required.
Compatible with the standard size 2-3/4" W x 4-1/2" H x 5/32" D Decora type wall plates

Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon.com

Fits over your existing toggle-style wall switch,
and gives you a place to mount your new Philips Hue remote control.
Why not just use the plate that Philips includes?
That plate mounts flat to the wall - next to a light switch.
This one covers up an existing light switch - which is ideal
*if* that light switch happens to control the fixture(s) that
your Philips Hue light bulbs are installed in.
There is an opening in the adapter plate, so you can still get at
the old light switch, if you need to.
So. . . why only a 3-star review?
Two things -
The magnet that holds your remote in place is not quite strong enough.
It needs to be more robust, or perhaps slightly larger.
Yes the remote stays in place, but tends to lean forward,
which you might be able to discern in the attached picture.
More importantly - If you install this plate using the hardware provided,
you'll quickly notice that the whole adapter plate moves around.
It won't stay straight, and is easily knocked off kilter.
This is because the adapter plate desperately needs
some spacers around the screw holes to stabilize it.
Further, the included screws are nylon, and are VERY flexible.
Most people will not be able to securely mount this unit as-is.
Two things I recommend, if you want a secure installation -
1.) Pick up two new screws from the hardware store.
#6-32 tapered (oval) head machine screws, exactly an inch-and-a-quarter long.
2.) Pick up two nylon spacers. Ideally 7/16" tall x 3/8" outside diameter, x 1/8" inside diameter.
(You may have to get a 1/2" tall spacer, and carefully cut it down to 7/16" with a razor.)
Take out the existing cover plate screws.
Put the new machine screws through the adapter plate, and the spacers on the back side.
Position the adapter plate over the old switch, and tighten it down.

--------------------------
The remote mounts we received in late October 2020 are improved over previous versions shown in some of the earlier pictures.
First, nylon spacers are no longer needed for a tight install; the mount now has screw columns that extend down to the mount bottom. They provide metal screws, but the existing plate screws also work. Insert the screws down the column holes, tighten securely to the plate, and the mount face will no longer flex or distort when tightening.
The center opening for toggle access has been narrowed, with a larger plastic mounting face area. The mount is more rigid, and also allows more underside purchase for installing supplemental magnets (see next).
[SEE ABOVE UPDATE. You can now disregard the need for supplemental magnets with the very latest version]
The one magnet provided is a large rare earth washer type that is mounted around the lower screw column. It is strong enough to hold the remote securely. However, the best magnet location for these remotes is around the remote midpoint. The original Philips mount places two magnets at the midpoint for this reason. The lower magnet placement is a compromise (and placing magnets above the toggle hole is useless). So the remote is secured, but the top slightly tips outward. You can probably use these mounts as-is and be very happy. But we wanted a tight, straight mount install. That requires supplemental magnets at the midpoint. The new mount design now allows a concealed solution.
Supplemental Magnets: Additional magnets installed at the midpoint of this mount (on either side of the toggle hole) pull the remote level into the mount and eliminate the tipping. The usual 60mm x 10mm bar magnets are too long here (the installed washer magnet is glued on the screw column and is not easily removed). 6mm rare earth buttons will work. But it's a very tedious job. They require super glue, mounting within a couple mm of the toggle opening -- and fighting the lower magnet which very strongly attracts them. We used companion magnets taped on the mount face to hold the buttons tight in position until the glue bonded. And we still managed to ruin two of the mounts with glue runoff, fling and finish smear from fighting the bottom magnet (and the remaining super glue fumes even several hours later then oxidized the finish on two nice wall plates!). I consequently don't recommend using Super Glue or 6mm buttons with these mounts.
Two new mounts and two new wall plates later, what worked easiest and best were 3/4" square self-adhesive magnetic squares, cut in half, with each half adhered in the toggle area of the mount underside. There are small rectangular areas molded on the mount underside, as if the manufacturer contemplated this solution. We used MagX 60 mil Japanese-branded magnetic squares sold by Amazon (both the magnetics and adhesives were strong), but there are many other brands in this size. This worked to end the tipping, and was not a difficult mess like supergluing small buttons near the lower magnet was.

They also make an option that fits over a toggle switch, but that looks kinda boxy and out of place, so I think this is the better option even if you need to swap our your wall switch.
