Ben is a story-teller. While some reviewers of his books complain about his writing "being all over the place", I enjoy his style. This book provides a lot of information about our current industrialized food system and the inherent public health problems it creates. But this is not a Michael Pollan journalistic presentation.
Ben weaves a story, complete with memorable characters, as he takes you on his journey of discovery regarding the problems of our industrialized foods. He talks to experts, insiders, and the personal story of a family deeply affected by food poisoning.
I have read a number of books and articles on our food system, and I have a Masters degree in nutritional sciences. However, it has been Ben's book that really made a lasting impression on me on the seriousness of our current agricultural systems, the government programs in charge of protecting the public, and where we might be headed if we don't make significant changes to the system.
