The real stuff’s great. Nice strong peppermint scent, leaves hair clean without stripping, and delivers a good leather with little product.

I’ve gone through 4-5 bottles of this from a local salon so I’ve gotten quite familiar with the product. The first time I purchased through Amazon was fine but the second time I received the fake.

Here are some differences:

Packaging: Real one had orange text for “peppermint shampoo”. Although it may have changed with packaging redesign.

Scent: The fake did not have the strong peppermint scent.

Consistency and color: The fake was clear and had a more gel like consistency.

Lather: fake had a poor lather.

I've been using this product for years despite the expense. I first started buying it because it had a strong peppermint smell that I liked. The last few years, however that peppermint smell has been getting weaker and weaker. This makes sense if you look at the list of ingredients, peppermint has been reduced from 2 percent several years ago to 1 percent and with this most recent purchase, to .01 percent. As a shampoo it's fairly good but that peppermint smell is part of what you are paying a premium for. I'm not sure it's worth it anymore.

This stuff is pricey but I've been using it for about 3 years straight and won't use anything else. Now, I'm not one to post about personal hygiene on the internet, so I won't go into any details other than to say that the thing that made me want to switch to this shampoo resolved as soon as I started using it, and boy am I glad it did. And that was after several years to trying to find something that worked. So, when I found this and it worked, I stopped looking and that's why I won't use anything else, even though it's pricey. Some things are just worth the price.

Malin + Goetz shampoos are all good. Although the price seems a bit high, you need very little to get a rich lather. They all rinse clean without over drying the hair. None of them will leave your hair with slip.
