When a 7-year old girl eyes her mother's suitcase full of gorgeous silk, cotton and embroidered saris she decides that she too should wear one, even though she is too young for such clothing. Her mother tells her no, that there are lots of other Indian outfits she can wear such as a chaniya choli, a cropped Indian top with a long, full skirt.
Eventually, the mother realises how important it is for her little girl to feel like a big girl and dresses up her daughter in the complicated and ornate folds of a blue sari, adding a bindi to her forehead as a final touch. Feeling grown-up and pretty, the daughter embraces her mother, thrilled to be just like her, even if just for a moment.

I purchased this for my sister who just had a baby. I haven't given it to her yet, so I don't know if SHE will like it. I thought it was a nice story. The pictures are colorful and the story line is nice. A good book if you can get it for the right price. There were some people that were trying to sell it for $20 and up.

There are not many contemporary Indian books for children and I got this, expecting to teach my child a little more about the culture. There was not much to the book but it was very colorful and an interesting read.
