I had all the horses searching my pockets, nipping my gloves and jacket for them.
The gray in the picture, since he arrived at the barn from an auction, has not let anyone touch him, we can't catch him. He took a treat from me today and then followed me around for them, 6 handfuls later I can touch his face.
I got the bite sized "apple nuggets" for my horses. However, they do NOT smell at all like "Apple". They have a STRONG smell of black licorice. Which I am not personally a fan of, but my horses seem to LOVE it, and that's all that matters! Great value for the price (I paid almost $6 for this bag). Its a decently large bag and says "300+ treats" on the front, which seems to be very accurate. The treats themselves, look like a thicker pellet. They're soft enough for my old rescue mare to chew, and thoroughly enjoy. I will be buying again, but due to the smell, I'll try another flavor next time.
Gave it 5 Stars on taste due to my horse seeming to like them ... I did not try one (LOL ...).
They're a nice small size so you can really control the portion size and give just one or two as a true treat.
The first time, I gave him a small handful ... maybe 4 or 5 ... and he almost immediately went into a sugar rush type of episode. Hasn't happened since that first time since I have never given him more than two at a time after that. Of course, if I had read the bag, that sugar rush wouldn't have happened as it states to give one or two at a time. My bad ....
My horse loves, loves, loves these! I tried switching to a different treat that had omegas in them but he refused them. Whenever he saw me reaching out of my pocket, he did this little shake of his head in excitement.
My horse came from Florida, bad quality hay. Since he’s in Wisconsin he’s become a bit of a food snob. Turned down his former grain to the hay and grain my boarding facility grows themselves. These treats are the only ones he’ll eat now! We just finished a bag of the apple flavored which made his breathe smell pretty good. Trying the peppermint next! I’m surprised to see such a difference in price in flavors though. Why is the carrot and spice more expensive?
My very picky yearling who won't touch real apples/fruit or veggies loves these. So I'm happy! and the price is awesome. The only other thing I can get her to eat are stud muffins and those are much pricier.
I’m sorry I rated this product unjustly. I thought I was reviewing another horse product I bought recently. So forgive me and ignore what I wrote about this product. They loved these treats.
This was my original review but so wrong. Very fast delivery was the best thing about this. Ordered one day got it the next. Have a Welsh pony that is loosing weight. I was excited from others reviews that this would help her. She loves her regular horse feed but with the recent cold Texas weather and her own daughter bullying her off her feed she has lost a lot of weight. Got it yesterday and dished up her regular food. Then I added a scoop of this new stuff to her feed. I thought she was going to eat it at first but evidently she did not like it at all. She stopped eating it and even went over to her daughters bucket to eat some of hers that didn’t have this in it. That never happens. I ended up having to remove the food from her bucket but she didn’t want any part of that bucket again. Other horses may like the flavor but mine didn’t.
I ordered these treats in December for my horse for Christmas. I liked how quickly the product arrived, but unfortunately the treats said they were expired. The sell date said 07/20/18. The product label warned don’t feed to horses if the product was spoiled.
