IMPORTANT: The following comments concern treatment of fine Teak INDOOR furniture.
First, it is important to understand: There is NO SUCH THING as "TEAK OIL" (other than the natural oils that already exist in the teak wood itself).
That is a Marketing name used by some companies for blended products that include volatiles (for quick drying), varnish (for glossy finish) and a small amount of oil.
Factoid: Varnish is why you end up with those white rings from moisture that gets into the varnish.
Do a little internet research and you will find TUNG OIL (from the Tung Nut) is the actual oil in most of the best products sold for treating fine Teak furniture. Hope's is pure Tung Oil.
There are many positives to using 100% Tung Oil but a couple of negatives too.
Positives: Restores original gorgeous hand rubbed oiled finish to fine Teak furniture.
Greatly improves water resistance & stain resistance.
With periodic application (once a year should do it) this a "forever" finish solution.
Is non-toxic so it can be used on food preparation items.
Negatives: 12 hour drying time between coats
May need to thin with Mineral spirits or turpentine to improve penetration (especially on new wood)
Shelf life of remaining product is limited so seal tightly and store in a cool place ... or, at this price, give there rest of the bottle to your friend and buy a fresh bottle next year.
So use 100% Tung oil ... why would you use anything else?
