To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I never write reviews, but after all the research I put into this I thought I should. After reading reviews online and on websites and watching YouTube videos for about a week I finally decided to order this monitor. The reviews however on this are not great throughout the different websites but I often wonder how picky are the people who leave reviews and do they consider themselves some sort of critic? So I wanted to let everyone know that I am just a mom of two babies and my goals for this monitor were to be able to see both of my children as their rooms are across the house from us. I wanted a split screen, I wanted audio for both cameras, everything included, and I wanted a long range monitor. And with this monitor I got all of those things. My favorite feature of this monitor would have to be the timed screening of the cameras. So I can have the camera switch back-and-forth about every seven seconds and that comes the full screen view and audio as well. I also did not measure the yardage but I took this monitor down the street to the other side of my neighbors house and made it almost 1/2 a block before I lost signal.
I purchased the older model last year, (FCD ID: MBP50BU), model number MBP50-G2, and raved about it. It was a fantastic monitor and 2-camera system with the option of adding more. Unfortunately my son threw the parent unit and it broke, so I purchased another set of units to replace it. They are NOT compatible with the old cameras. I repeat, they are NOT compatible, so buying more cameras for your old system is a waste of money. Check the bottom - if it's the FCC ID MBP50BBU, return it now! The screen lags, the sound is barely there, the battery dies fast, the panning feature is delayed, and everything about it feels so much cheaper than the old unit. If you get the gold unit as pictured above, don't buy!
The monitor has great range we live on an acerage and don't lose video when in the yard, the night vision is grainy but still can make out where my child is. Biggest complaint there is no motion sensor on the cameras so if my toddler gets up and is quiet we don't always hear her and have no indication that she is up.
Summer Infant video monitor sucked, so I tried this one. Battery life is amazing, split screen works, the audio quality is much better.
If you want to do more than 2 cameras though, it DOESN'T WORK. I got sent different models, tried every which way and they only pair 2 cameras per base station/monitor. We wanted to do 4 cameras but it does. not. work.
This set up is so frustrating! The screen randomly powers off for no reason and half the time the monitor doesn’t charge. I purchased on April 7 and today is July 15. It’s been doing this now for 3 weeks so when I plug in I make sure the battery bar shows it charging but then in the morning it’s still only at 1 bar. So frustrating and it too late to return 🤯 It also takes a long time to switch over to night mode this time of year, do for about 1-2 hours it’s dark on the screen. I’m giving this set up 2 stars only because it does technically do what it’s supposed to do, it’s just not worth it.
Good monitor, a little laggy in adjusting when lighting changes. But a good monitor with a good size screen and can rotate between all cameras automatically or have split screen. The only issue I have is that the split screen only has sound from the selected camera... but I think that is typical of all monitors... Wall mounting of the camera is not simple like others - needs a special mount. Range of the monitor is good. Motion of camera tilt/swivel is great.
Very disappointed in them now. The first set we got I would have given 4 stars, these new ones get a low 2 stars. We cracked the screen on our original and wanted to add another camera so we just purchased this item a second time. The quality has definitely dropped. The new ones have a clicking during some of the white noise playback and the night vision image is not as clear. Every time you talk you have to restart the white noise and it takes about 5 seconds to switch cameras now - that is 5 seconds longer than the old ones. They have also shortened all the cords. The worst thing they don't tell you is that the new version is not compatible with the old version.
Edit: I discovered two more problems that dropped it to one star. The minor one is that they changed the threading for the mount screw away from the standard. The bigger problem is that it keeps partially losing the connection even at close distances. The temp displays "LL°" even when it is almost too hot to sleep, and you can't pan the camera to see what your little one is up to. These new generation are garbage. Stay away!
Pros: - works well enough, the dual camera set up is nice - the range isn't bad - battery life on the parent unit isn't bad
Cons: - the screen, even on the lowest setting, is as bright as a thousand blazing suns. Like most people, I look at this at 3am and it is so bright it will sear your retinas - the buttons are so loud that if your baby doesn't wake up your partner, you pressing the buttons will. The click of each button is louder than the unit's sound at half volume - the parent unit has a light that is always on, I had to cover it up to keep the bedroom dark at night - the unit gets quite hot if it isn't ventilated
I like this monitor a lot. The selling point for me was the potential to add two more cameras. The problem is that I couldn't find any extra cameras online. So, I got in touch with Motorola directly. They informed me that this model is discontinued and it wasn't possible to purchase the cameras through them. Just something to be aware of when purchasing this item. Otherwise, I like it a lot. Good sized screen. Good battery life. Mood picture and sound quality. Long cord for cameras.
I really like the split screen and how much the camera can move around. The only reasons I gave it a 4 star rating is 1. You can’t mount it easily to the wall and 2. The night vision isn’t great, it’s pretty good but not great. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Customer service isn’t the easier to deal with and the one I spoke with didn’t have the right information so they need to gain better knowledge on the products Motorola has.
