This is worth the price. If you're looking for a shotgun microphone that won't break the bank this is your mic. I came across this microphone while searching for a small shotgun mic to use with my DSLR and I am glad I discovered it.

It has a metal build which makes it feel premium. It also comes with a suspension system (red stand) which defeats handling and shake noise caused by movement while shooting.

I especially enjoy the windscreen that's included in the box which eliminates wind noise when shooting outdoors.

The biggest sell for me is the included TRS to TRRS cable. This cable allows you to connect the microphone to your smartphone. Since this microphone is phantom powered there's no need for batteries. You just plug it in and it works.

The sound quality is good. It did a great job during the video I included below. Honestly, I can see myself reaching for this over my pricier mics because of it's small form factor and light weight.

I gave this a 4 of 5 stars because I feel the vocal pick-up feels a little thin. Other mics are on the warmer side.

But this could easily get 5 of 5. If you're looking for a good shotgun mic, that comes with loads of extras. Buy this thing.

I'm returning it, shock mount and windscreen are unbelievably poor quality

It doesn't matter if the microphone itself sounds OK or stands up to the competition if the supporting hardware required to use it is garbage and that is the case here.

The so-called shock mount it comes with is a tiny piece of confoundingly brittle plastic that doesn't absorb any shock or vibration at all. It feels like it will snap every time you put the mic in it. I almost didn't buy this because so many so many people have reported it breaking for them under normal use. I can't carry it around and trust my work to it when I have this constant concern about it breaking based on how cheap and inflexible it is. If it breaks though, Movo will happily sell you a replacement on their web site for $12.95! This thing can't cost more than 5 cents to have manufactured in China and if you have to buy a replacement then you haven't saved any money over the Rode Videomicro which is much higher quality all around.

The furry windscreen that comes with it is garbage too. It sheds and drops hairs like mad. I can't have it shedding in my camera bag leaving lose hairs all over my lenses!

If I spend $40 or more on anything I expect all aspects of it to at least be better than dollar store quality, but unfortunately Movo really cut ALL corners here. Don't believe the YouTube reviewers who do side-by-side comparisons and say this mic is competitive, because with problems like these it clearly is not.

Slightly better than iPhoneXS' internal mic

I purchased the Movo VXR10, LPM100, & VXR50 (Smartphone Video Rig Kit V7) to compare.

The VXR10 was a slight improvement over the iPhoneXS internal microphone but for me, that small improvement is not worth the price and hassle of using the VXR10 while mobile. For recordings using a tripod, the sounds was an improvement since the iPhone's mic is pointed perpendicular to the subject while the VXR10 (like most external mics) is pointed directly to the subject. This was the only mono (non stereo) mic in my comparison although many professionals believe stereo sound is not required for vlogging or youtube. The mic was packaged well and looks durable. I would easily pick this mic over the LPM100. If cost was a large factor, I would also pick this over the VXR50.

The LPM100 was my least favorite. The audio sounded artificial, like listening to speakers that are out of phase—if you close your eyes and listen, none of the sounds can be located—it’s all mish-mashed and ends up sounding like a blob. This flaw was enough for me to reject the LPM100. The second flaw was the lighting plug: while it did seat in my iPhoneXS with a medium thickness case, it did not feel secure, and if I was moving about, I would constantly worry that it would fall off, or if accidentally knocked around that it might break off. I don't think this is Movo's fault, just inherent in this kind of connection. I doubt modestly larger phone cases would allow the lighting plug to seat properly.

The VXR50 (Smartphone Video Rig Kit V7) sounded the best although I would not say it's a slam dunk over the other two or even the iPhoneXS built-in mic… but it was better especially since the mic can be pointed to the subject unlike the iPhone's internal mic. The VXR50 appears well made and solid; it's also the longest of all three but is also the only that requires a battery which will undoubtedly go dead when it's most needed. I did not find this mic as a standalone product but only as part of the V7 kit. The bluetooth remote control included with the kit felt solid and worked very well with the iPhoneXS but needs to be manually paired every time the remote is turned on. The light was not useful—it has three brightness settings but feels like a flashlight pointed at my face so it was more annoying than an enhancement. The clamping phone holder looks nice and is capable of holding the iPhoneXS but anything bigger will either not fit or not feel secure. Everything comes in a nice zippered semi-hard case which I always appreciate even if I repurpose it for another use. I did not find the other accessories useful but maybe you will. The combined mic, remote, and holder make the price reasonable and I’m happy enough with this kit, that I will be keeping it.

The attached video demonstrates the sound. All recordings were done on the same day, in the same environment, and at the same distance. The audio has not been enhanced or adjusted for the video (no level boosts/cuts). The finger snaps are for testing the stereo separation of the mics.

All equipment was purchased on Amazon at the same time.

This provides really nice sound, when kept within 18 inches of the talent. Like virtually all mics, when you mount it on a camera four feet or more from the talent, you will not get very good sound. But that's just the way of mics. Caleb Pike reviewed this and stated that it has a noticeably hotter signal than the Rode Videomicro. I am pretty picky with audio, and I often will EQ to get things the way I like with various mics, but this one gives me quite good audio without EQ-ing. For being small and cheap, it has surprisingly good bass. And the upper end is crispy without being shrill. For the money, this is very nice.

Plastic legs are flimsy

So similar to a few other reviews here, I found out the hard way the little red plastic legs can snap easily. This happened in the first 5 minutes of unboxing, and unfortunately I won't be able to use this mic on my trip I'm leaving for tomorrow. Hoping I can get a replacement attachment when I return in a couple weeks.
