4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for 10 feet of solder wick but I'm skeptical about the flux coating they used.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Basic and Effective soldering wick
Reviewed in the United States on 2 June 2020
This soldering wick cannot be more simple or effective. With the additional time on my hands and binging on YouTube videos WAY more than I ever did, the electrical engineering and the ‘do it yourself’ channels, I was inspired by them and bought myself the basic tools for soldering. For whatever reason, none of the brick-and-mortar stores had desoldering wick and that led me to buy it off of Amazon.

The NTE Solder wick is a small 1/8th/3mm wide and 10ft. long copper braid that soaks up melted solder. Intended for smaller desoldering projects and working in small areas. Imitating what I saw on YouTube, it does work well in removing unusually thick solder points while desoldering it from the recessed area it was in. I guess there is not more to it than that - I saved a busted LED desk lamp from going to the dump by replacing a damaged LED chip and gained invaluable experience properly desoldering something.

5.0 out of 5 stars E.A.S.Y. Peasy! Easiest way to remove soldered electronic components!
Reviewed in the United States on 30 September 2020
I have an older Onkyo stereo component that was clicking incessantly and I had narrowed it down to a bad relay. Got the replacement part but didn't have any de-soldering wick to simplify removing the old relay that had 9 solder points. Nobody local carried it, even major electric supply house. So i ordered this and waited another few days for delivery.

E. A. S. Y. Peasy! I just put the end of the wick onto the joint being de-soldered, applied the hot iron tip for a few seconds and could see the solder wicking up into the braided wick! Using wire cutter, I cut the used 3/4" or so off every couple joints to get fresh edge/end. After maybe 3 minutes, simply pushed out the old relay. Then using a fresh edge of thenwisk, kinda "hot mopped" each point with the wick and iron to clean each point. Slid the new relay through the board and soldered it down.

Whole thing done in about 7 or 8 minutes. And that old Onkyo is back in service!

I'm by no means a technician or repair guy but have always been one to DIY things and have a very broad knowledge base on basic repairs of different things. This was my first time de-soldering with wick, and not sure why I didn't get this stuff before! Works great.
