Points to consider:
- This ring set is sturdy, and they hold their shape in the heat of the oven. This is an important consideration, and I'd be cautious about using an 'adjustable' ring instead. There is a hairline "seam" on the inside but it is so narrow that it does not show on the finished cake.
- Cleanup is far easier than a cake pan. After taking the dish out of the oven, I give it a few minutes to cool and then slide off the ring and soak the ring (sink or pizza pan in a pinch) - it then rinses right off with water. The "bottom" is usually parchment paper, so no cleanup there.
- Desserts look fantastic. You get beautiful, perfectly shaped cakes without any of the stress of unmolding from a pan (no more little missing spots where the cake stuck to the pan; no more mis-aligned 2nd layers or toppings because you can use the ring to stack everything up. The same family recipe that was previously made in a cake pan now looks like a professional product with a wow factor.
- Storage: they nest flat. I wasn't expecting to care about this, but it is really convenient to store all one's cake pans together. They take less space then cake pans (since they're in a single layer), and it is easy to grab the pan you need without re-arranging your entire cupboard.
Overall I'm very pleased. One minor quibble is that the rings are ever so slightly out of round, but the only way you'll notice this is if you stack them co-concentric; I doubt that is a factor for most people. I hope the manufacturer someday offers a set of small rings, like muffin sized or individual cake sized, because that would be a fun build-on.

There are two main issues, however: 1) the forms did not come perfectly round in shape and I had to re-shape them and 2) the metal that the forms are made of seem to be very soft, so re-shaping them is very easy, but exactly that is not necessarily a good thing for the long run as you would want to be able to use them without having a fear of bumping or pushing them out of shape. So, they have to be handled carefully.
