This was a great book for my 8 year old daughter. She loved how strong Nim was and how she was going to find a solution no matter what it took. In the end the girls's grandfather teaches her a lesson that many should learn or be reminded of. The book is set during the early 1940's and being Asian wasn't very easy...this Chinese american family wanted to do their part for the war effort, and they did.

I have met this author and feel the story-line illustrates that other nationalities in our country were supportive during WWII. I purchased it as a door prize for a recent presentation
