i enjoyed the large surface area of the pans, able to fit a lot of potatoes (fried potatoes) at one time.
i recently am having health issues that lead me to examine things I've overlooked. this is a review of the Baking Sheets (BS) not a health seminar so i will sum it my simply saying i am now eliminating anything potentially contributing to having heavy metals in my system. i am not saying these baking sheets are the cause of my issues but i will no longer be using these baking sheets, and i will show you why. Most of the time i use these BS twice a day for about two months.
when i first received these BS i washed them prior to using it, and noticed it made the soap look gray as if i washed off some of the aluminum. In a rush to use the BS i wiped off excess moisture off with paper towel and noticed some sort of sediment or metallic debris on the paper towel. This has been going on after each wash. i overlooked it cause i enjoy that i was able to fit so much on the tray. it was recently i discovered that my body is now showing signs to too much heavy metals that i now am taking actions to limit anymore unwanted toxins. it took about 3 separate paper towels to remove all the debris. (sometimes it took more)
I've been cooking with these BS since April 2018 it is now November 8th 2018. I've now discarded them.
I ordered both these Nordicware pans and USA pans at the same time, and used them both for the first time, so there's no difference in age etc. I baked gingerbread cookies, and as you can see the ones baked on the Nordicwear pans cracked and I needed a spatula to scrape them off and some of the bottoms were left on the pan whereas the USA Pan cookies baked smooth and came off easily without a spatula needed. This is based off one time only and both new, so I can't speak to the wear of either or anything other than these cookies, so take this review as you will
I wish I could say 5 stars but I have a standard size UK oven and they don't fit I'm absolutely gutted, I've thrown the boxes so can't return. Edit, it is my fault for not checking the measurements I'm just absolutely gutted
This product meets Nordicware's usual high standards. They don't unexpectedly flex like other pans at this price sometimes do. Appear to heat evenly. Others have mentioned the bottom pan in a two pack has slight scuffing on the top edge in the corners but in my case, it was like you'd see on any pan after light use. The only tiny negative is that a full Silpat is just a fraction too big to lie absolutely flat. I didn't buy the recommended silicone liner as I already own several Silpats. It doesn't interfere with baking, but am mentioning in case you are shopping for a liner at the same time. Just read an Epicurious article rating this as best everyday half sheet pan on the market.
Yes, you can use this under a broiler or at 450+ degree F to roast vegetables, and yes, cooked-on oil comes clean and doesn't affect the stickiness of the pan. This is all aluminum, with (allegedly) steel around the edges so it doesn't warp at high temperatures. Very heavy duty pan.
A little history: when I moved out on my own for the 1st time, my mom gave me a no name aluminum sheet pan. I have abused this thing for about 10 years. My mom had it for probably 20 before me. I have a little family of my own now and my husband likes roasted veggies, but I have found that I often make broccoli and potatoes or fries or homemade chicken nuggets in the same night. I have go thru a few other sheets pans looking for a sturdy one to accompany my old beat up one. They all would twist or warp over 400 degrees like it was their job. Didn't seem like the price made a difference. I had cheap ones and then expensive ones. They all went funny at 400. I assumed all pans did that these days and almost gave up, but then I found this one. Two, actually. So now I have three awesome pans. I use the old one and one new one for veggies, and the third exclusively for baking cookies so it will stay cleaner and stick free. Note: these are not "non-stick", they are just not sticky because the metal is really smooth. If you're afraid of chemicals leeching into your foods from non-stick coatings, these are a good choice. Use a fat (oil, shortening) to make foods easy to remove from the pan.
I got these after hearing some great things people had to say about them. Unfortunately, while these don't warp in the traditional sense (sideways), they do warp down a bit. Meaning, now the pan isn't flat but has this bump in the middle of the surface that can be "popped" up or down, making the pan not flat. Shame
These are the perfect size for a home oven and they have been making my baking so much better. They distribute heat evenly, they are easy to clean, the rim is high enough to avoid spillage and to have a good grip. They are also very sturdy : so far they haven't bent despite a bit of clumsiness on my part and they don't bend in the oven on high heat like some brands of non stick baking sheets too. Half sheet silicone mats and racks also fit perfectly. No "peeling" of coating so that makes using them safe. I used to be a non stick believer but not I'm an aluminum convert.
