Upon release of this book restaurants across the US were shuttered. (what? a virus? don't be daft, it was all about the James May culinary revolution.) There are rumors that the entire kitchen staff of the French Laundry (a very expensive roadside diner) took up their chef's knives in contemplation of synchronized seppuku to the tune of, and whilst singing in rounds, that popular ditty, "Row, row, row your boat". Beginning, however, with the lesser sung verse, "row, row, row your boat, Noah had an ark, if you see a puppy dog, don't forget to bark".
However, upon consuming a significant quantity of snotty french wine, they reportedly were last seen cramming themselves in an old Peugeot (car, not pepper mill), waving their knives, and shouting "Nous verrons James May en enfer" which roughly translates to "We'll see James May in Hell".
They have not been seen since, and Gavin Newsome, governor of California, is presumably bereft over the impact on his favorite dining venue, where he frequently was seen celebrating new rules he had issued solely for the benefit of the peasantry.

About the Author
James was one-third of one of the most successful television programmes of all time – BBC’s ‘Top Gear’ and he now co-hosts ‘The Grand Tour’ on Amazon. He has presented many solo projects on television – ‘Toy Stories’, BBC2’s six-part series with annual updates, 'James May’s Man Lab' which ran for three series, 'James May’s Cars of the People' and, most recently, ‘Our Man in Japan’ on Amazon Prime. Other projects have taken him to the edge of space, forced him to share a caravan with Oz Clarke and seen him attempt to fly with a jetpack on his back. ‘Oh Cook!’ is James’s first foray into cooking.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Self deprecating in a way only James May can pull off with such style, May shines a beacon with his fresh perspective.
May says if you're a seasoned cook, you won't be reading this book. He's wrong!
If you've watched his new series of the same name you already know you want, no, MUST HAVE this book! Even in Kindle form! Myself being a "seasoned" cook of many decades, I find his book (and series, watch that too!) profoundly inspiring & delightful.
Do yourself a favor & read his introduction and sections on measures, timing, etc. He says what few people have the guts to say. He tells us straight up that if a recipe fizzled, it won't make it into this book. Hahaha, well, picture in your mind the fizzles! Found myself laughing with his utterly spot on descriptions and tips there as well as in the recipes . . ." Many people make the mistake of using a pan that is too small, which will make the pasta clag into a medieval building material."
Also like the organization of the book, how the recipes are grouped.
Honestly, in a world of too-perfect cookbooks, this book allows us freedom to cook some pretty interesting recipes, inspires to try our hand at others and to enjoy doing it.

Simple recipes, hilarious author commentary

In the words of my sister, “what idiot can’t cook a cheeseburger?” Well this is the book for you - full of 60 recipes that any idiot can cook.
This cookbook just arrived today, and I’m already in love with the simplicity of the recipes and the author’s dry wit in the instructions. Measurements are in both metric and Imperial; temperatures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. So anyone can use this book to cook - Americans included! I look forward to trying the recipes. What I really like is that if I have trouble with a recipe, I can watch the James May Oh Cook episode on Prime Video for pointers.

Best new cookbook there is

I'm a fan of James May's and watched every episode of his Amazon program "OH COOK!" which this book is based on. While Mr. May says he, his program, and his book are all geared for folks who have never cooked, or for beginners, I am a classically trained chef, and "OH COOK!" is my favorite cooking series hands down! I went to one of the best culinary schools in America there is. Worked almost 30 years in kitchens. And while Mr. May's program and the book certainly make cooking easy, approachable, and fun for beginners or folks who have never cooked a thing --- any person at any level of experience can garner gems and many good things from this book. I bought it and have cooked more things from this cookbook since receiving it than I have in the multitude of other cookbooks I have. Can't go wrong if you've never cooked, are afraid of cooking, or have X amount of years in kitchens, degrees, so on --- Mr. May and his fine book will inspire and put some really good food on your table once you open it up and dive into it and start making these recipes. Plus the excellent wit and humor make it all the more enjoyable.

Got this book for my husband as soon as it came out! James May's cooking show on Amazon is great and the cook book is a great addition!
All the rescipes have been really great and has sparked a love of cooking in my husband.
The downside is this book is behind the Spam shortage. We can't find it anywhere, not even on Amazon.
Bravo for a great, easy to read and delicious book.
