I like the look of the nib and I'm equally impressed with how it writes. It is quite wet for a fine nib, and because of that, the line width is more of a medium-fine than a fine. The nib writes very smoothly with just a hint of feedback, and the ink flow really brings out the shading characteristics of inks. I also like the attention to detail on the pen. The Duofold logo on the finial is almost perfectly aligned with the clip, and the engraving on the barrel is always visible while you are writing, which shows the amount of thought they put into the design of the pen.
It would be good if the grip section was slightly thicker, but overall, I really like the pen and I'm glad that I purchased it.
The writing is superbly smooth without any hard starting , no leaks and such a joy to write with
The ink layout is generous without being too wet
Workmanship is good and quality is on par with a Pelikan or MB
Too bad it does not come in Extra Fine nib
It came with 2 refills and a converter ... DO NOT toss out the refills once you are finished with them... I suggest you recycle them and syringe-fill them with your favorite inks ... it holds about 1.1ml vs the very inadequate 0.7ml capacity on the converter . Given the generous ink flow, the converter will need alot more constant re-filling vs the higher capacity disposable refill (and much lighter than the converter too )
I would not hesitate to recommend this as a possible heirloom pen and a very reliable and handsome daily carry-around. You want to start a conversation in the boardroom ? get the Big Red version

Writing with it is an enjoyable experience. So much so, I find myself just jotting down random words I hear on TV, or when children are at play outside or those that just pop into my head.
Never thought about this before, but one forms a relationship with a fine writing instrument. This Parker Duofold Centennial is a bit more classic looking that I normally prefer, but I greatly respect its nature. When posted, it makes a bold statement about what it is, then in writing exercises it surrenders itself completely to the task, it's well balanced, easy in the hand, not overly weighty thereby allowing one to indulge oneself in written verse, composition, script, scribble or scrawl, with the fervor of a literary genius.
First - the pen is big and heavy overall, but the cap is what makes the statement (it is BIG). Without it, the size of the pen is "normal", although still on the hefty side, which I like. A lot of metal went into making this pen, which I also prefer to just "resin" (i.e. plastic). The section is metal, but more of the "brushed" kind, which makes it comfortable to grip, unlike the polished type. This pen is a conversation starter - if you pull it out in any setting - people will instantly talk about it. Some people like this, others don't, but keep it in mind, if you plan on taking this pen outside your home office.
The pen came with a gold-toned converter which was a really nice touch. No issues with the converter.
I got the Fine nib and have no problems with it, wrote as expected right out the box, something rare these days. It's a big nib, which is not my preferred size, but I knew what I was buying. Combined with the weight of the pen, it requires absolutely no pressure to write, all you have to do is just glide the pen, especially if you are writing on Clairefontaine. And it looks amazing.
Overall, I have no regrets buying this pen.
In the world of high end, high quality fountain pens, this Big Red is a fantastic deceptive sleeper. IMHO, today Parker is thought of in a historical aspect as a legacy brand. Indeed, the word “vintage” finds its way into the title description for this particular fountain pen. Worry not - Old School Rules!
You would be hard pressed to find a better writing fountain pen than the venerable Big Red. Color me definitely impressed!
The Big Red in particular takes attention to detail to an even higher level. When writing with nib to paper, the Big Red’s barrel engraving is viewable for reading - not hidden underneath, not obscured on the side - but, aligned up and presentable as you’re writing. Very cool!
Other than writing, fit in the hand is most important to me, and here the Big Red really excels. The Big Red’s grip section is stellar, contouring down to a moderate flare at the end. Brilliant! For comparison, the flare at the end of the grip section on my Sailor Realo 1911 and Pelikan Souverän M805 are less pronounced, and my Aurora Optima is more pronounced. The Big Red hits the sweet spot.
I have been writing up a storm since receiving mine.
In person, the aesthetic of the Big Red reminds me of a beautiful MB Hemingway I missed out on years ago.
It’s your loss if you don’t pull the trigger on a Big Red; I am pleased as punch I did.
