Summit Day14 October 2018 - Published on Amazon.com
I read this book because I have been to many of those places in New Zealand. That made the book more enjoyable for me. The writing is thankfully not full of gnarly dude type climbing lingo. Despite not having many memorable mountaineering quotations, there are a few. This is a very poignant one: "I took one last look at the summit, saying a quiet farewell under my breath. It was a sad moment, like leaving a special friend I knew I’d never see again."
A classic Kiwi adventure14 December 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
An excellent read. I'm a climber (and a cyclist) and Grant portrays the unique challenges and rewards of each sport very well. There are plenty of gung-ho all action adventure stories out there, but very few manage to convey the reality - that being outside doing what you love can at times be downright unpleasant, but will ultimately lead to broadened horizons and a deeper understanding of self.
a great challenge15 March 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
I have never fully climbed Mt Ruapehu or even had the skill to climb Mt Cook. What was achieved by Grant and Allan is truly a great Kiwi adventure. Well done and the humour, stories and explanations explain NZ culture and people very well.
When I get time.....!13 April 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
A bit early to comment yet as I haven't had a chance to read it, although my husband sat and read it almost in one sitting, and was able to give me a detailed description of it. The second copy is a gift and the recipient has yet to receive it. It appears to have met with approval though.
Great Book27 March 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
Great story of a once in a lifetime adventure, Grant has a easy to read writing style and is often humourous and critical of himself at the same time. I highly reccomend Peak to Peak , just set aside some time to read it once started it was very hard to put it down.
