I liked the straightforward way this was written, and that it's co-authored by a teenager and her aunt. The tone is spot on: informative, friendly, and just a little humour.
This is fine for a capable reader of 8/9 years old, and really useful for anyone 10+. I'm using it in conjunction with discussion with my daughter and it helpfully reminds me of some points I might have forgotten to mention, while giving her a good introduction to periods.
My one criticism is that it's dated. Our was published in 1997 and, since then, there are lots more options for periods products, especially environmentally friendly choices. The section on sexual feelings is also entirely geared toward heterosexuality, which I would hope wouldn't get past a publisher today.
Overall, this is a useful tool which will help aid discussion.

Karen Gravelle and her fifteen-year-old niece, Jennifer Gravelle, have written a down-to-earth practical book that answers any questions you might have about your period, from what it is and what it feels like, to how to choose your form of protection, to how to talk to your parents about it. The Period Book will guide you through all the physical, emotional and social changes that come with your period, as well as related issues such as dealing with spots, mood swings and new expectations from friends and family. Debbie Palen's funny and sympathetic cartoons ease the confusion and exasperation you might feel and celebrate the new sense of power and maturity that your period can bring. Perfect for sharing, The Period Book is a trusty friend that can help you feel happy and confident about this new phase or your life.

Condition not "very good" - content OK
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 8 October 2022Verified Purchase
A well read copy arrived. I would say it was a poor condition, not the 'very good' that was described.
A quick flick through suggests this book may be useful for my 8 year old, although it's outdated in terms of inclusivity, and in terms of available products, due to it's age.
It'll be a useful supplement to the conversations we have already, but isn't sufficient to replace such conversations, to my mind.

Probably perfect for a 14-15 year old
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 28 March 2017Verified Purchase
It is OK. I think this book targets older girls, I do not find some parts that relevant to my 11 year old. Probably perfect for a 14-15 year old. I would not suggest an 11 year old use tampons and my daughter found some parts schocking. We decided to keep it for the future while I explain to her all she needs to know for now. It was promptly delivered and I find the book good but for older girls.
