It doesn't have a "weighted" straw...but the bended straw is great cause as long as it's attached the right way...my 18 m doesn't have to fight to finish all her milk while laying down.
A lot of cups (and I've tried them all.. literally ) just don't get clean. I'll wash them by hand and they still...stink. It's cause there are a lot of little crevices you need to really wash well. So you need a littl pipe cleaner or something. And another cup I have is the stainless steel kind which I have to boil once a week or it gets stinky. Not this one. I wash by hand and it is clean. Or I just throw it in the dishwasher. Simple.
What else. Oh the straw. So my oldest bites her cups. Like... bites off pieces. And she was able to bite this straw but I just snipped it shorter. And they sell replacements if she does it again.
I literally have tried every fancy and cheap cup out there. These are by far the best. We've had these for...4- 5 months I think. So we've put it through it's paces and they are all still like new. (Except for the straw my kid bit. But even that one still does the job).
1. They drip all over the place (because of pressure differences, liquid will often slowly drip out of the straw).
2. The covers are difficult to use and often snap off.
3. When you uncover the straw, liquid will often squirt out.
4. The bottom is rounded, so they fall over all the time.
Buy a different straw cup. These are awful. (We returned them.)
What I love about these cups is that it's hard for him to chew on the straw. We've tried other types of cups, including Camelbak eddy for kids, Munchkin click lock bite-proof cups.
He's destroyed at least three bite valves for the Camelbak eddy (which are at least replaceable).
He's also destroyed four bite valves of the munchkin click bite-proof cups (which are NOT replaceable to my knowledge).
Destroyed bite valves mean the cup is MUCH more prone to leaking.
On these Avent My Bendy Straw cups, however, the straw seems to be short enough that it's much more difficult for my kid to chew on (and destroy) the straw. Also, the bent straw actually seems to make it easier to get almost all the liquid out of the cup (though I sometimes have to help and position the cup at the right angle so he can get out the last little bit).
This cup is pretty spill-proof, also, which is great. There's a little valve inside the straw which prevents the liquid from flowing out on it's own. However, if there is any liquid in the tip of the straw (above the valve), which always happens if the cup has been used recently, then that is able to come out when, say, your kid accidentally (or purposefully) knocks the cup on the floor. It also will squeeze out when you close the lid, which can make a mess. What I do, now, is fling that little bit of liquid out into a sink before I close the lid.
If, though, the cup tipped over when you weren't around, it would not continue leaking all over the floor (like a lot of my other cups will), so that's good. Actually, now that I think about it, out of all the cups I've tried, this one has caused the smallest messes.
A bit of advice for cleaning: take everything apart (including the cover that flips over the straw) and use a bottle brush and a straw brush. I actually bent my straw brush a bit so that it curves with the interior straw (hard plastic)-- much easier for cleaning. It works in the top/soft straw piece too, which would be VERY hard to clean otherwise b/c of the anti-spill valve in there. When rinsing the soft straw, what I do is hold it under running water and then squeeze the anti-spill valve; if no water comes through the straw, I turn while still squeezing until I get the valve to open (it only opens when you squeeze in a certain direction).
I definitely recommend this cup.
