I call this a straw bottle and not a sippy cup. We got these for our toddler son, as he did not like normal sippy cups due to poor flow rate. It works like any straw cup and if the bottle is not upright then it will not flow. It does keep his fluid somewhat cold, as it does have some thermal qualities. I have bad arthritis in my hands and it can be difficult to take the straw part out of the rubber seal when washing it in the dishwasher. I do recommend getting a dishwasher holder for all the little parts. They are inexpensive and keeps one from losing small pieces in the dishwasher.
My son, who is now five, is on the autism spectrum and chews EVERYTHING. These bottle have held up fairly well against his chewing except on rare occasions when he gets the flip top popped off and chews the knobs that attaches to the lid. We have used a half of a dozen bottles for three years now and I am now ordering more mostly because of the knob chewing. Other bottle with rubber necks get chewed into oblivion. Not these...
My big complaint about ordering these through Amazon is that they sent three pink ones. I would have rather had all gender neutral. We took the pink ones and changed the parts on his older bottles instead. So, buyer beware in terms of color but Thank you Playtex for making the parts interchangeable. It would be nice however if we could just order new lids without reordering a whole new bottle though.
The only other recommendation would be for Playtex to look into the technology that I have seen on other bottles where inner straw end rotates with the bottle to allow for more 360 degree drinking. These bottle are indeed limited like any normal straw drink but I could see this bottle would be even better with that minor improvement..
The bottle will leak and make a huge mess if the flip top on the lid becomes detached at any point. This has happened twice on the school bus (he was attending special education preschool). I consider two times in three years of constant use --not bad.
