This is a GREAT book to have as an accompaniment to other lesson books, as a self-learner. It DOES focus more on actual practice and gives the bare minimum in the way of explanations- so, if you're JUST starting to learn the language, you will DEFINITELY need other books that go into more depth with full grammar explanation. A lot of the time, it's difficult to think up things to write as practice when you don't have a teacher to assign you lesson-specific homework. So, think of this thing as a giant book of homework rather than an all-in-one, full German course.

I only gave 4 stars, though, because I've noticed that, for some lessons, the wrong 'Answer Key' is given in the back of the book. Specifically, for example, the answer key for lesson '3-8.' Luckily, I am in contact with multiple native speakers that were willing to check my answers, so the lack of a correct answer key isn't a MASSIVE bother for me... however, if you don't have a German handy, it could be a problem.

Not a 1:1 of all the books in series

The book is great but a bit misleading to me. I bought the first one in the series called "Basic German" and then decided to buy the "All-in-One" thinking I would be buying the complete series. You will find in the book that in fact they just took portions of each book and include them into the "All-in-One" book. If you are looking to get more practice and more complete information then buy each book in the series on their own. You will spend more but you will get more information. You could also buy this condensed version of the series and then just buy the "Dino lernt Deutsch" series to expand on what you learn which is my real recommendation

This workbook is exactly what I was looking for to use as a supplement to an online German class. The repetition in the exercises seems tedious at times but all that repetition really drives home some of the more basic and necessary concepts in German. I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic workbook supplement for German learners

I love this workbook. I do. I'm older, and my learning "mindset" feels good with "homework exercises" like these. It is a helpful supplement to both Rosetta Stone (I'm doing speak/listen/write/read Rosetta), and is, for me, FAR better than "For DUmmies." Just be sure not to fret about your vocabulary at first... the drills are designed for the topic at hand (e.g., pronoun substitution for nouns).

FOUR STARS B/C ... 3-8 answer key is wrong, and it irked me the answer key had no umlauts on the vowels. That's fussy, I know, but if you're just starting? Those umlauts are *really* important. They can determine plural of nouns, etc., so you kinda need those!
