2.0 out of 5 stars Major defects: leaks & plate disintegrates into black mess
Reviewed in the United States on 26 October 2018
The photo shows what happens when I use this coffee maker as directed. The black mess coming from this coffee maker isn't coffee. The same mess happens when I simply make hot water. One problem is that the heating plate is made of some substance which dissolves when wet, creating a black liquid when water drips on it and then also splatters all over when that black water is cooked by the heat. The second problem is that steam from the basket condenses and drips down edges of the coffee maker, not going into the carafe -- i.e., it drips onto the defective heating plate. Together, these two defects mean you'll have a mess to clean up every time you use this coffee maker, even when you use this coffee maker completely as it was intended. This coffee maker would be fine for use inside of a coal mine, but not in a home or office or even in a car mechanic's shop.

Update on Monday, July 8, 2019: This coffee maker died yesterday. I went to brew some coffee, flipped the switch, and nothing happened. The light on the power button didn't go on, the water never heated up. So no coffee. And that's upon owning this machine for less than fourteen (14) months. So when Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach warrantees their product for one year, that's literally what you're getting. For that kind of quality they should price this thing at about five dollars. Still, I'd hate sending off another piece of cheap plastic to the landfill every year. And now I'm shopping for another coffee maker. What ever happened to pride in one's work?

Bottom line...Fantastic value!
Pro's:
Up to 10 cups of coffee
Versatile: Hot coffee/ice coffee/tea/hot coco/etc
Standard size basket
Paper filter (economical)
" " purchase locally
" " rinse & put in recycling
" " no need to take apart
Or use fine reusable mesh filter
Lower cost than k cups, t disks, d donuts, s bucks etc
No line to wait in
Customize your coffee, flavor, style to brew (chocolate powder + coffee grounds = Mocha)
Nice esthetic design
Easy to operate
Simple mechanism
Use diluted vinegar & water to clean internally No need for harsh chemicals or "de-scail-er"
Small footprint on your countertop real estate
Affordable price $20 vs $200 for a Tassimo
Yes, you can make different styles of coffees: regular, bold, espresso, latte, cappuccino, macchiato with it with a little help for the milk
Sturdy but not heavy; well made
Basket only fits one way so you can't use it if it isn't in correctly-potentially avoiding a spillover

Love it so much I bought 2: "His" in black and "Hers" in white to make regular and flavored coffee at the same time.

Cons:
Limited colors available
No automatic shut off
Delicate spring=handle carafe with care when removing and returning to hotplate
No froth for latte. Must do separately.
