Doing well with money isn't necessarily about what you know. It's about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people. Money-investing, personal finance, and business decisions-is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don't make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life's most important topics.

I think more than money, it helps with philosophy of life in general. I do believe if you follow some of the principles in this book, you'll become wealthier both financially and mentally.

Was enjoying the read until I reach chapters 5 and 6 which have blank and missing pages! Very annoying

This is the worst purchase I had from Amazon so far. My bad. I didn’t read clearly that it is an Indian edition. The quality of the paper is very poor . The print is thin and thick throughout the book. The layout per page is non consistent. A few pages were not even cut thus they are bunched together. Worse: this Indian edition as stated on the book is only meant for sale in India, Indian subcontinent and the Maldives. How Amazon can breach this and sell it to me in SG is baffling.

Written just for men!

Nothing new here that Daniel Kahneman hasn’t said. And Clearly @morgan housel doesn’t realise 50% of the population is female. Not a single quote, case study, name or reference to women here. (Apart from snow white!) Amazing a publishing house lets this through

An instant favourite

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. If you've been in or around finance, the wisdom contained in this book may not exactly be new to you but its still great to re-learn some of these things or at least to hear it from someone else. I'll definitely read the book again.
I've rated the book 4* and not 5* because I found a lot of the examples to be US/American focused. The world has changed. Morgan has not written with a global audience in mind or even a global perspective. This is not necessarily a bad thing if that's the intended audience, however I am not American and have only visited the country once, so I found that examples or cases from other countries might have helped a bit. Either way, a great read written in straight forward language.

The single best book on the subject!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 28 December 2020Verified Purchase
I have read many books on the subjects of psychology and finance but have to say that this is the best book by far! I often highlight interesting parts to review later and must admit that this book is almost entirely yellow! Housel has an amazing ability to distill complex ideas to everyday useful bits of information. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. After reading it twice already I can honestly say I would have happily paid a lot more for this book!

Meh... stating common sense through metaphors and examples
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on 16 May 2021Verified Purchase
Can't say that I've learned anything new by reading this book and that to me is the purpose of reading non-fiction. I had higher hopes after reading so many great reviews, but the book points to common money "wisdoms" by expanding on them through examples, just in case reader needs convincing. Chapter 19 summarizes the whole book and, as far as I'm concerned, should be the first one to read. Then, if you find something of interest, go back and read from the beginning. It's not a bad book, it is nicely written, maybe it's good for a younger generation just getting into money management. Me... I didn't really need a confirmation of my beliefs.

Housel is on the ball with this book. Worth re-reading a few times .
Favorite concept:
"Every bit of savings is like taking a point in the future that would have been owned by someone else and giving it back to yourself" - That's priceless advice from Morgan.
