Also a persistent flicker on the Video.
Have an open Service Ticket with QNAP, but this is getting pretty annoying.
Actually took me more than the 30 days DOA Amazon policy to configure and put this device into service.
Be mindful of that if you buy one. Mine was NOT DOA, but had issues that render it unreliable and hence unusable for my purposes.
** 2nd Update **
QNAP technicians sent me this:
"I found out that some users did encounter the same issue. This issue does not occur on firmware v4.4.2 build 20200529 and Hybrid Desk Station 4.0.6. Can you try to downgrade the firmware and hybrid desk station app, and then test if HDMI audio output is stable? I'd recommend to back up all data first before downgrade the firmware. Please follow this procedure to downgrade the firmware....."
Downgrading Firmware is not a viable answer in my book. I think I'm stuck with a lemon. Attaching a video of the Flickering I am getting.
** 1st UPDATE **
Took a while, but with a few cryptic emails back and forth, and only one question asked of me, "Someone" decided it would be nice for me to send it in for repair. Valid option, but not very smart for what I require. Here's my response:
Reserving the right for warranty work if other failures occur or if this device continues to degrade.
Repair?
That would be an extremely foolish roll of the dice for me.
As a electronics technician and engineer for over 40 years, I have little faith in the “Repair” of items such as this.
I’m betting your experiences are about the same.
INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS are ghosts that will come back with the “Repaired” item and haunt me for the entire time I attempt to use it.
Not to mention the additional time I will be without access to the data.
Send me the motherboard and I’ll swap it out on my own, but to send it away…..
Understand your position, but protecting my own data and productivity are my main concerns.
The problems are with the HDMI audio and display functions, not with data storage and retrieval ‘so far’.
I have informed all of the parties involved regarding this item and my opinion is that the solution posed puts my data at risk.
If I pull my drives out of the device and send it to some ‘place’ in Georgia, where all they will do is perform diagnostics from a manual, then I will get back the same device with all of the same issues. So to protect my data, I’ll need to copy it on to other media on another device. Seems the logical solution is for me to buy another device and find someone willing to use this one, in spite of its flaws.
Reserving the right for warranty work if other failures occur or if this device continues to degrade.
I think I’ll just call my experience with QNAP a wash and go back to ASUSTOR.
** 3rd Update
QNAP Service ticket is no longer accessible by me. They closed it out with no resolution.
Was sent a Customer Service Survey.
Essentially told them I got a lemon and that I'll be donating this to the local HS Science Club if they can use it.
Going back to ASUSTOR. Good Luck folks, I think I'm done with QNAP.
