This is my first stick and is coming from an absolute beginner. The main reason I chose this stick is because this is the only one in it's price range that supports artwork put under a glass cover. This also supports Sanwa joysticks without the adapter. I also like that the cable can be tucked away inside the device for safe keeping. One downside is that it only supports ps3 and PC. It won't work with current gen consoles out of the box.
The stock buttons:
The buttons aren't anything special, but the do the job and are perfectly usable for beginners without issue. The buttons feel very mushy and make a squeaky sound, but are fairly responsive and shouldn't cause any issues.
The Stock Joystick:
The joystick has similar issues to the buttons where it is very squeaky and mushy feeling. On the other hand, as a beginner, I couldn't see too much of a difference with the Sanwa JLF stick. Unlike it's predecessor (the q1), the carbon only comes with the square restrictor plate, which is a big minus in my opinion.
Overall feel:
I found this stick to be of high quality. The plastics don't feel very cheap and the stick has some pretty good weight to it. I don't think this would break anytime soon.
Customizability/Upgradability:
If you look at the image below, you can see the difference between the stock stick and the customized stick. I used a Sanwa JLF stick and Seimitsu PS-14 buttons. I found a huge difference with the new buttons right off the bat. It has a much better feeling when I press it down and fells much more responsive. Will these upgrades make a beginner play any better? Not really.
Overall, I would give it 5/5 due to the features it has for this price range. If you would like to play on your ps4 and other consoles, I would recommend getting the Mayflash f300 instead (requires official controller to use) or the Qanba Drone (works with ps4 without controller, but also has a much cheaper feel and low customization options), which are also within the same price range.

The drone was alright out of the box, but it did feel cheap, it had 2 strong points up on the Carbon, it works with PS4, and had more top panel button options. In MAME, I found I had enough buttons to pretty much do anything I wanted from the controller (coins, resets, pause, etc), however the build quality felt odd, I’m not an experienced gamer with PC, but I used to heavily game on consoles, so I’ve owned plenty of arcade sticks, this one felt pretty flimsy. The weight felt weird, it just felt cheap, like not much was in it. The stick was the worst part, it felt like I was playing on a super cheap stick that wasn’t going to last super long, and my understanding is from research that the stick can be a bit of a challenge to switch out (not impossible, but difficult). Ultimately, even at the price point, it felt like it wasn’t worth it.
The Carbon was surprisingly heavy, it felt hefty for it’s price tag, also the build felt way more standard for an arcade stick it felt like it should’ve actually cost a bit more (which is strange, because at the time of purchase, the drone was more expensive). While the Drone panel felt like it was just a sticker, the carbon’s panel actually feels like it’s a plastic piece. The stick was actually likable, didn’t feel like I would want to upgrade it (I’m not a hardcore gamer, so it felt good enough for me to get by with), the drone’s didn’t immediately my concern went to if I would be ok with the stock stick on the drone. The carbon had way less buttons, but the trade off felt fair.
Shortly after having both, the drone started to have issues with staying installed on my PC, that was it, I had no strong urge to keep it, so I sent the drone back, and ordered a second Carbon, no regrets. If I had known the build quality of the Drone, I would have passed. If you need a PS4 controller on a budget, I would say the drone, but if you don’t, I can’t imagine why anyone would pick it over the carbon, even without android support, it feels like a much better quality arcade stick.

The housing is solid, and having spent a few hours playing Skullgirls and Meltyblood, everything works just as well as expected.
I have ordered Sanwa parts to replace the stick and buttons, but the Qanba hardware works just fine. I do plan on keeping them around for replacements/backups.
::edit 8/10/2016::
I have added some pictures of the inside of the controller, as well as my complete controller with Sanwa parts substituted in.
