What you can't fix is the poorly-designed tension adjustment that keeps the grip arm attached to the extension tube (the horizontal/vertical joint at the top of the stand). There's a piece of molded plastic inside the joint (pictured) that's evidently intended to fit into the metal extension tube, but even with my lightweight (15-20lb) aluminum frames, it's not a strong enough joint to support the bike while you work on it (turning the cranks, tightening bolts etc.)
What that means is this $50 stand will repeatedly and without warning dump your $$$ bike onto the concrete floor of your garage before the plastic tube eventually cracks and turns the whole thing into a costly, ungainly paperweight.
Should have bought the real deal from Park Tool. At three times the price it still might have saved me from damage to my forks, cranks and frames. Shame there isn't an affordable alternative for the home mechanic.
The last photo is an example of the kind of damage that results from an aluminum frame falling onto the ground and then tipping over and into this stand. This is irreparable damage to a discontinued frame that's not possible to replace.

Upon receipt, I was not disappointed. Unlike some of the other reviews, mine came with the legs properly assembled, and nothing was damaged or missing. All I had to do was install the clamp assembly on the top with the included hex wrench, and install the tool bin clamp.
However, I'm surprised no one else has mentioned in the other reviews that, with the tool bin installed, the folding legs cannot slide closed 100%. This is not a deal-killer for me, as I can still fold the legs about 90% closed, or I can choose to just remove the tool bin.
I bought this to safely hold my carbon bike using the seat tube, which this stand does perfectly. The best way to do this is the release the rotation clamp to allow the bike to find its center of gravity, then tighten it. It results in the bike hanging at a steep angle as shown in my photo, but it's very stable and still easy to work on. Note that, if you do this, there needs to be about 5 inches of seat tube exposed. If your seats is low, the large clamp head will not fit unless you raise your seat. Of course, if I chose to clamp it to my carbon top tube, it would fit and be held level, but clamping a carbon frame is very risky.
I gave this 5 stars in relation to its price point, which is less than 1/3 of what I would have paid to buy a more pro oriented one in a bike store. Yes, this has a lot of plastic parts, but it seems very sturdy and durable, and is perfect for a DIY-er for occasional repairs, maintenance, and cleaning.

Taking it out of the box I was more impressed with the thickness and quality of parts. Then... I saw the “backwards” assembly others have been talking about.
OK, it took a couple of minutes to see the problem and figure out the corrections with the only guide being make it look like the picture. There are no instructions for this but there should be because the “reversed” legs were quite deliberate.
The legs come assembled assbackwards so they fit into the box. If they were assembled correctly each unit would require a box almost twice as big. So, note to manufacturer, we’re fine with the price break on shipping, just stick a note in the package explaining it.
That said, anyone who is mechanical enough to need a bike stand is mechanical enough to sort this out in a couple of minutes without instructions. No big deal.
This unit is well made and a very good deal. It held my bike steady and made it very easy to work on. I highly recommend it.

P.S. Im referring to modern light bikes. Older heavy models may present a bit more challenge.
