1 Brix = 1g sucrose per 100g/solution 100g/solution
3.53 fluid ounces 16 ounces / 3.53 ounces
1 Brix = 4.533 grams of sugar per 16 ounces
So when measuring my homebrew, I'd multiply the Brix reading by 4.533 to calculate how many grams would be in a 16 oz serving.
But then I measured the reading of two store-bought liquids (orange juice and Kombucha). The store-bought orange juice label stated it contained 46g of sugar per 16 oz serving. The refractometer measured the juice at 11 Brix, meaning 1 Brix = 4.18g of Sugar per Brix). That's about a 9% margin of error from the initial test -- not huge but enough to make a difference.
Then I tested the store-bought Kombucha. Its label stated it contained 10g of sugar per 16 oz serving. The refractometer measured the liquid at 4.25 Brix, meaning 1 Brix = 2.353g sugar per 16 oz serving. That's more than a 50% margin of error from my initial test at 4.533.
So there lies my confusion. I have three different multipliers:
1 Brix = 2.353g sugar per 16 oz (store-bought Kombucha)
1 Brix = 4.18g sugar per 16 oz (orange juice)
1 Brix = 4.53g sugar per 16 oz (sugar water)
I have no idea which one to use on my homebrew to calculate the sugar content. I understand there will be a little variance between liquids due to various factors, but these gaps seem insanely large, especially for a tool specifically designed to measure the sugar content of more than just one specific liquid.
Am I missing something?
If I am, I will happily change my review to 5-Stars, but at the moment, I'm not able to use the tool for the purpose it was purchased and I'm not sure of the issues. Thanks in advance to anyone for their help.

0/32 brix is just perfect for measuring maple sap sugar.
This unit is well built and came in perfectly calibrated.
Don't let the price fool you this refractometer is a tool that will last a long time as ling as you take care of it.
The case is rugged and the extra sample droppers are nice to get you started.
