We ordered one, that's right, just one, and tried it. What we found was that, over the course of one month, it worked as well as the old shaver had worked at its best. However, the blades stopped cutting as close by around the end of the third week. We now each have our own and, for my use, I'm going on three months and the blades are still good. For him, the blades do stop working very well around three to four weeks. So, he buys a new one every month and is thrilled.
This thing is such little workhorse but, owing to the design, he can take it to work with him. He can drop it on the floor and just get a new one, if it breaks. The Remington shaver has all the shaving power he needs, gives a nice close electric shave, so not as close as a perfect razor shave, but still pretty close, can be taken anywhere and still be used when the power goes out. On top of everything else, it doesn't carry the worry of an ultra-expensive electric shaver that will stop working right around the time the cost of buying one of these every month or two has added up to around two-thirds of the cost of that expensive razor.
We couldn't be happier and, as usual, it is all because we stopped to check with Amazon first, before making a decision. This little travel shaver is amazing, for both men and women, for facial hair and legs, and we both love it. Good luck finding the product that will meet your needs. I strongly advise anyone out there, who is tired of the stress of using an expensive shaver, to give this a try. It won't last forever and you won't need to worry about all things that can go wrong, over the course of a day, in a home filled with people. Thank you Remington engineers and staff. Thank you for the rest of my life.
After a couple of months, one side of the foil became detached as others have reported, and I am now unable to put it back in place. It is thus completely non-functional and ready for the garbage can.
I would give this razor 4 or 5 stars if it didn't fall apart after a short period of time. Maybe a drop of strategically-placed glue would help keep it together now that I am aware of the problem?
Best off to avoid this razor.
My only complaint: The foil will eventually fall off so keep a spare one of this handy or else get a little crafty to keep it in place new...my $150 razor did this also. I think it would be an easy improvement but it's a Remington design problem. You can also order spare foil heads for approx $3.50 but shipping isn't worth it unless you buy several.
I like the fact that the charging cord is just that - a cord. No big stupid "wall wart" AC adapter to take up unnecessary space. I also liked the fact that the packaging was just a small, simple pasteboard box. No infuriatingly sealed plastic blister pack that takes shears to open.
It doesn't shave as well as my Norelco triple header but it doesn't take up near the space, so for a few days or weeks of travel I can live with it. And the on/off button is a little too easy to accidentally press while shaving and turn it off, so I just hold it a little differently. But it seems like it might be easy to accidentally press in your bag when traveling. Why couldn't they have made it a slide switch?
