The Bad: retractable connector would not lock in the open position using the switch; tinkered with it for a while and finally just pulled connector by hand and it locked. Inserted drive and windows 10 wouldn’t recognize it. It did get very hot at idle. Poor quality control for a $131 super premium drive. Returned for refund.
"I am Steve from SanDisk® Global Support Team. I understand your concern. There can be various reasons which may have caused the drive to behave this way and we would have been glad to assist you towards a best possible resolution. However, as you have already returned the product"
Thanks for the reply Team Steve! Please note, I purchase your products frequently. I almost always put a standard speed 128 GB in the back 3.0 usb port on any system I set up, or retune, for backup or boot from usb, in Windows 10. I pick these up for $25 to $30. The speed difference for the relatively small loads I transfer is not really noticeable in everyday use. I bought the 400 mb/s spec 256gb drive as a gift to myself, and of course to show off a new toy to my friends. When it arrived not functioning (plug not locking open), my confidence in a long useful life was not high. The high heat level in standby mode was another concern.
Immediately after opening the product and seeing the problems, I went to your website, and reviewed the entire site including the community section. Nothing was helpful. Since I couldn’t format or even scan the drive, my options were very limited. I reviewed several of my go to websites for reliability at delivery and life of product reviews, and the percentage was not good; the consensus was: If it works great, if it doesn’t send it back.
Based on the product costing double or more compared to a standard speed drive, and my trouble shooting time at $75 per hour, you can see where my decision to bail out after three hours comes from.
Look closely at the star ratings. Almost 4 out of 10 buyers are not rating this super premium priced toy a five. Time to start earning those 5's.

RECOMMENDATION: About the only thing you can do is: a) disconnect the drive when not in use, especially detrimental would be to put a movie on it, and play it for over an hour, b) place the drive on a heat conducting surface or force cool it by blowing a fan on it, NOTE: these only apply to someone who has already purchased this drive. For everyone else, buy another driver that does not have an inherent heat problem.
Update (07/2018): Drive has failed; neither a Windows 10 nor MacBook Pro computer will recognize it. Upon reading more into the reviews, and lot of people have had issues with this drive failing.
Pros: Good transfer speed (+100 MBps). Tested on a Dell Inspirion 8920 through the USB 3.1 port (on the back of the computer).
Cons: Drive gets unusually warm (compared to other USB flash drives) during idle (non-transfer, just plugged in). This drive was 17 degrees F over ambient temperature (84F). The metal shell appears to dissipate some heat over the plastic cased San Disk Extreme (non-Pro) 64GB version, which was 24F over ambient. The Kingston was 8 degrees F over ambient. And a PNY Attache 64GB 3.0 (plastic case) was 12 degrees F over ambient. Temperature was measured with a IR thermometer (link below).

I'm not sure what's happening here, but anytime I plug in this device to any computer it just sits there, gets hot, and then the computer freezes up. If it's plugged in the USB 3 slot (or any USB slot) upon startup, the computers just freeze during boot until I remove the drive and reset the computer.
I'm currently traveling internationally for 5 weeks and already ditched the Sandisk/Amazon shipping box, because...really... when was the last time a USB stick failed. Never, is my answer. I really wanted to use this monster to back up photos while traveling and now I'm having to seek other options. I'm hoping I can return the product without the packaging when I return to the states.
The idea of a huge capacity fast thumb drive is appealing, but this engineering configuration has something majorly wrong with it. I'm not the only one here concerned about the stick running hot. well, at least their's are running. Mine only shows up in the device manager.
