5.0 out of 5 stars Best memory card I have ever used!!
Reviewed in the United States on 6 November 2017
I bought this memory card to use in my game camera. I had never used anything bigger than an 8 gb card but this one came up for an unbeatable price so I thought I would give it a try.

This thing sat out in the game camera for weeks. In the rain and snow and many windy nights this card held strong.

When I finally ventured back to my game camera to see what kind of wild creatures were traveling through on the trails what i found was shocking.

I had accidentally left he camera on film mode. Anytime a wild beast set foot anywhere near the camera this card fired up and started saving the video that the game camera was recording.

I had video of all kinds of terrifying animals such as mountain lions and wolves prowling for their next victim. But the best of all was a video of a cougar pursuing a helpless doe seconds before he pounced and got that nights supper.

This amazing video was right at the end of the cards memory, if i had stuck with the 8 gb card I would have missed out on the video of a lifetime. Who knows what crazy things i have missed out on in the past but now i know that i will not miss anything in the future all because of this GREAT MEMORY CARD!!!

Will not buy again! Just got done with a photo shoot and went to load pictures onto my computer and they are not there. I viewed them on my camera and could see them. Put card into computer and they are not there. But back into camera and says “Cannot Playback image” this is only my second time using this card.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Sticks, watch for defects
Reviewed in the United States on 30 October 2017
After owning several identical sticks in the past we were happy to find them on amazon for much cheaper than stores near by. We purchases four of the memory sticks, and were very pleased with two of the four. Two of the sticks were in bad shape, the first stick came chipped in the corners and the second was cracked all along the card. We were unable to return the two sticks with defects and had to buy two more locally for the upcoming shoot. Overall I have been pleased with these memory cards and will purchase them again in the future however I will purchase them locally to avoid defects as we have never had a problem with them in the 15+ other identical sticks we have used and purchased in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars An upgrade in READ speed, write speeds vary
Reviewed in the United States on 4 October 2015
The SanDisk Ultra 80MB/s is a new card that replaces the Ultra 40MB/s. The 80MB/s is the read speed only. SanDisk refers to the write speed as Class 10, which means the card maintains at least 10MB/s continuous write, but does not state a maximum write speed. I tested the following Ultra 80MB/s cards: (2) 32GB, 64GB and 128GB and compare with the previous Ultra 40MB/s cards. I use CrystalDiskMark benchmark (5 passes, 1GB random data) and USB 3.0 card reader.

SanDisk Ultra 80MB/s (new version, September 2015)
32GB (1) Read: 94.2 MB/s Write: 43.0 MB/s
32GB (2) Read: 97.7 MB/s Write: 20.9 MB/s
64GB Read: 82.4 MB/s Write: 19.1 MB/s
128GB Read: 97.7 MB/s Write: 38.5 MB/s

SanDisk Ultra 40MB/s (old version, 2014-2015)
32GB Read: 47.8 MB/s Write: 19.9 MB/s
64GB Read: 47.8 MB/s Write: 16.2 MB/s

READ Speed: Ultra 80MB/s cards exceed 80MB/s read speed and are much faster than the old version. This allows fast downloads from the card to your computer when used with a USB 3.0 card reader. Using USB 2.0 it limits the speed to about 35MB/s.

WRITE Speed: Benchmarks can be deceiving! The benchmarks show a big difference in write speed between cards. One 32GB card measured 43MB/s but one from a different source was 20.9MB/s. When writing actual files the write speed varies during transfer. The 128GB card benchmark was 38.5MB/s write, but transferring a large file I see a range between 16-24MB/s throughout the transfer. Only the faster 32GB card was able to maintain above 40MB/s write speed for the duration. There was also a big difference in 512K random write performance between cards (~1MB/s vs 20-24MB/s).

Write speed of 15-20MB/s seems to be typical of Ultra cards. They are good for general photography, but not fast enough for extended continuous shooting. Once you hit the buffer limit in the camera it can become very sluggish if the write speed is not high enough. If you only take one shot at a time the write speed speed should be sufficient.

I am tempted to remove a star because of the variance between cards, but all cards exceeded their speed ratings. The improved READ speed over the previous version is a benefit. Actual write speed may not be much better than the older cards. You might get an extra fast sample, but do not buy this card expecting outstanding write performance!
