Follow up: I took a heat gun on the lowest setting and made quick passes over the mesh to fix the deformities and it worked like a charm. Think wrinkled clothes in the dryer. The heatgun took out the waves and tightened up the mesh!
UPDATE: I ordered a second unit to cover my side vents and realized that the actual mesh is fabric and can be torn off the plastic rectangle mold with a little bit of force, so keep this in mind. It's fine if you set it and forget it, but if you are moving and touching the filter frequently, then you might want to go for something else, or just be very careful.
The filter medium is a very, very fine mesh. It should stop very small particles of dust therefore will probably need to be cleaned regularly, more often if you are in a dusty environment.
The filter's frame is a smooth plastic on one side that does not stick to my computer case. The opposite side of the filter's frame is just magnetic enough so that it does stick to my computer case. Either there are two layers of material in the frame or it's a polarity thing.
I noticed a couple of reviewers saying this filter was not magnetic, or not magnetic enough to hold on to the computer case. If you think that's the case, try flipping the filter over and using the other side against your case. If it still doesn't stick maybe your case is aluminum, or even plastic.
It could have a stronger magnetism in the frame, and it would be nice if there was some minimal skeleton of support across the surface of the filter to support the fine-mesh filter material which is very soft and may, or may not, sag over time. For those two reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
The thing I like the best about this filter is it's very easy to remove due to the mounting option is magnets. And just lightly tap it against a table outside to remove the dust, or for harder stuck on dust take a vacuum to it or use an air compressor to blow the dust out from the intake side.
Overall it holds well, and filters great. Easy installation and easier dismantle for when I need to clean the dust off.
If they don't mount flush, ie they kink anywhere on the edges (thus sucking in air not through the mesh) I found that some electrical tape neatly seals up the gap, allowing all air to pass through the mesh filter. I surmise my issue with fit is because I actually mount these to my case, opposite the fans which are attached to the inside, via my radiator.
