About the Author
Odette Williams is an Australian expat and baking fanatic who now calls Brooklyn home. After becoming a mother, Odette realized that she couldn't find any keepsake apron sets for her young children to don when they baked together, so she made some herself. Friends started asking for aprons for their own children, and in 2013 Odette launched her eponymous brand. Odette Williams products--including flour scoops and cookie cutters--very quickly got picked up by leading retailers, including J.Crew, Anthropologie, ABC Carpet, Le Bon Marche, and Barneys.

Style over substanceReviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 April 2019
Lovely concept, and I still have lots of the recipes to make, but judging it on its chocolate cake I have to say this is a total fail. I’ve had nicer packet cakes. It’s very easy to make, light and looks great but taste is not very chocolaty and rather has background of oil, and texture is similarly very definitely that slightly rubber one you get with an oil based cake. Swiss buttercream recipie is good, but again needs a big boost in chocolate flavour. Will try some of the other recipes but it feels like the focus has been on the concept and styling of the book rather that recipes.

Best cake book I have ever owned!Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2019
I am surprised at the negative reviews! I am a terrible baker and my cakes nearly always fail. Since getting this book that has all changed! I love it - I love that its 10 recipes with masses of variations, alternative frostings, shapes, flavours and additions which totally change the characteristic of the cake with little fuss. There really is a cake for every occasion and absolutely everything has turned out perfectly. I agree the chocolate cake is not chocolatey enough for my liking but is still delicious. I think this book is a true find and I love the way its written and presented!

An Heirloom Cookbook!Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 April 2019
Gorgeous photos, beautiful writing and anecdotes, and so far... simple and delicious recipes. When I was a kid my mom and I would read cookbooks together like storybooks. Simple Cake reminds me of our favorites - beautiful storytelling and flavors that create memories.
