Someone is coaching her and it's to the great detriment of her art. Susan Boyle has a towering talent, and emotion in her voice to break your heart, but in these songs, everything is so controlled, every song sung the same way, and each phrase is terminated to be followed by a one second gap before the next phrase. She does not sing as if the music is carrying her away as she did with I Dreamed a Dream in Britain's got Talent. That performance was transcendent. I did not buy the I Dreamed a Dream CD when I heard the recorded version as it was sung like this, controlled and all technique, but ultimately insipid.
An artist less humble would insist on her own spirit. I think this is the tragedy of Susan Boyle, that she believes that others know better than her.
I will buy another CD when, if, we get the unfiltered Susan Boyle, when she is allowed to sing with her heart and soul.

A wonderful voice and a wonderfully gentle lady.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 May 2021
I was my late wife's full time carer for the last 10 years until she passed in September 2020, Susan will understand what that means having looked after her mother. I knew who Susan was but nothing about her stardom or records because when I wasn't busy with my wife I was washing up, cleaning, cooking etc and then was ready for bed. Since September I have bought my first ever computer and after the customary battles with it have discovered You Tube and through that Susan and others. I am still working hard and still grieving but Susan's voice in the background helps me get through the day. A great album from a very talented lady.
Enjoyable, eclectic album but too short!!Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2014
I'm a great admirer of SuBo and this was the only one of her albums I didn't already own. There are some surprises here, that's for sure, and Susan proves that she is capable of taking an extremely disparate mix of songs and turning them into a cohesive album with her unique voice. However, whilst I'm glad to have this as a component of an extensive play-list of her recordings, ripped to my media player, I'd feel cheated if I had bought it at full-price as a "stand-alone". At just 33 minutes and ten tracks, I agree with other reviewers who feel this is a rather meagre offering!

Fabulous!Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 July 2013
Susan Boyle is an amazing singer, and one helluva lady! Some reviewers have quibbled about the short track list on this CD - there are only ten songs - but that is a minor point, considering how good the tracks are. Susan sings with warmth and passion, and draws you into the songs so that her experience is yours. Her voice is incredible, and it is easy to see why she was such a sensation when she first entered the public arena. Long may she reign, and long may she produce amazing albums like this one. She deserves all the success that comes her way. I cannot fault this album and therefore I give it five stars.

Short changed - more importantly I wrote to Amazon three days ago and have not had a responseReviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2019
VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED with my purchase. The headline song is exactly 1 minute long “Someone to watch over me” - I know the lyrics to the song .. and I believe I was either sold a dud AND THE CD is misrepresented or there is something wrong with the CD
