I grind one bag at a time using my blender, and store it in an airtight container for daily use. I can get these 40-oz bags (usually) cheaper at Costco, but when I see a good price on Amazon I jump so I can get the free shipping. It stores on a shelf in the original bag for a year or so and is still fresh, and my whole kitchen smells heavenly on bean-grinding day.
What we like best about this coffee is that despite being bold and dark, it's never bitter. My husband has trouble with other coffees he gets while away from home, because they cause him acid stomach issues. Starbucks never upsets his stomach. I count on it to get my engine revving in the morning, and I look forward to that first cup every day.
I would buy this size every time were it not for the fact the beans were old, dry and stale. There was not a hint of freshness (ie absolutely no oil on the beans that one sees with Starbucks French Roast). I get the impression this is an old bag of beans that had been on the shelf for years. I should just return it for a replacement. Very disappointing..
In my opinion, Starbucks is a delicious coffee and I am forever grateful to them for producing it!
UPDATE 9/26-27/13. I tried the coffee at 20 grams; the muddy flavor solidfied as bitter taste, not entirely unpleasant. Next I tried the blended coffees, 50/50. The result was a mildly bitter, smokey brew: OK. I'll order Illy Dark Roast Ground Coffee for Espresso Machines and Lavazza Crema e Gusto Ground Coffee, as my standard blend, and cut the Starbucks 50/50 with it while it lasts. (I cannot return the item; I threw out the packaging: UGH!)
UPDATE 9/30/13. I tried 21 grams and 4 ounces of hot milk (in a 12 ounce mug) and the result was good, not top-notch but definitely drinkable.
