Review

BJ Fogg is the founding father of habits research, and his advice has already changed my life. Tiny Habits will help anyone have their best year yet; whether you want to sleep better, lose weight, work smarter or be a more present parent ― Dr Rangan Chatterjee, author of Feel Better in 5

Absolutely brilliant ... a 5/5 book. Fantastic things in every paragraph, on every page of the book ― Chris Evans

On the subject of behavioural design, there is no one on earth who could author a more informative and anticipated book than BJ Fogg ― Robert Cialdini, author of 'Persuasion'

This book is a rare diamond in a vast market: a self-help book that actually helps. That’s because it is informed by scientific enquiry. BJ Fogg is, deservedly, a cult figure not only among behavioural science academics but also in the business world. As a behavioural science fanatic, I cannot wait to read it: as an overweight behavioural science fanatic, I cannot wait to try its prescriptions ― Rory Sutherland, Ogilvy VC and author of 'Alchemy'

BJ Fogg is a Stanford and Silicon Valley legend. He teaches people small research-based steps that enable them to make big, good and enduring changes in their lives. Tiny Habits makes his simple secret sauce available to everybody; it is a joy to read and packed with easy steps that will help you do more of what you want – and less of what you don’t ― Robert Sutton, author of 'The Asshole Survival Guide'

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny Habits is a Game Changer
Reviewed in the United States on 1 January 2020
Tiny Habits will completely change how you think about change.

BJ Fogg's Tiny habits method gets results quickly. Notably it makes behavior change remarkably easy - and even fun. Don't let the emphasis on 'Tiny' fool you. It's a truly transformational resource.

Studies show that about 45% of our behavior comes from our habits. BJ Fogg's work provides a way to be more intentional about our habits and design the behaviors we want. You'll learn a valuable life 'master skill' from this book.

What I especially loved about this book is that it explains the Tiny Habits method clearly and breaks it down into a three-step actionable process. And it also provides a window into the two decades + of research on behavioral design that is at the core of it. The book has outstanding graphics that show how behavioral design works so you come away with a solid understanding of the key concepts and tools beyond the Tiny Habits method.

In addition to the the models and research, some of the most interesting parts of the book come from the stories of how people have used the Tiny Habits method to make big changes over time. The author shares his personal experiences and struggles at times as he developed habits of his own. And there are numerous examples from his Tiny Habits Academy coaching clients ("Habiteers") and stories of how they have used Tiny Habits to make changes in their lives. There are also compelling examples of how some of the author's' students at Stanford have applied The Fogg Behavior Model over the years in the business arena.

With most books, Appendixes are an afterthought - at best. Not here. They are a goldmine.

The models and methods are laid out elegantly for easy reference. There's a quick guide on how to design a Tiny Habits recipe, along with examples of how to use celebrations and positive emotion to wire in new behaviors. Best of all, the Appendixes include 200 sample recipes for Tiny Habits across different life situations, such as for working Moms, caregivers, active older adults, people who work from home and college students. There are sample recipes for common challenges such as strengthening key relationships, reducing stress, staying focused, cultivating brain health and even for stopping habits you want to lose.

In my personal use of Tiny Habits and in my professional work with it as a coach, the biggest lesson I've learned is how versatile the Tiny Habits method is. If you're looking to make changes in any aspect of your life or work - small or big - starting with Tiny Habits is a wise move.
