This was easy to install and get working. - I have read a lot of these reviews on here, and I will be honest; You need to be somewhat technical to install this. - When replacing an SSD they don't just magically start working, they ship blank with no data.

Both P5 and T5 screw drivers worked fine. I used the P5 to open my MBAir (First time since it left the Apple Factory four years a go!). Used the T5 to remove the screw on the SSD. Ever so slightly lift the SSD half an inch if that or else you will break the connector. Install new transcend drive. Screw new drive in. Screw base back on, done. Put old SSD inside transcend enclosure, use T5 to screw the drive and seal the enclosure. As far as the external is concentred, you can plug this in to another working Mac and view / copy any data you wish.

Now you're new Transcend internal SSD. I have a MacBook Air Early 2014. Everyone saying, backup, clone, create bootable USB... The Mac has built in Web Recovery. CMD alt R. Power the Mac on holding these until you see the globe, let go. Once loaded. Go to utilities> disk utility. You will see the new Transcend drive. By default you will only see the volumes. Click on View>Show All Devices. Select the internal Transcend SSD (The device above the volume named "Transcend".) You will know if you have selected the volume instead of the root level of the SSD because you won't have the options I mention next. Select erase.
Name: Whatever you like.
Format: Up to you but MacOS Extended (Journaled) Mojave will change the volume to APFS anyway so no need to worry about that.
Scheme: GUID (You have to set it to this or else anything like Mojave won't install).
Click erase.
Done.
Now you can close disk utility and go back to the main menu of Web Recovery and select Reinstall MacOS. Just follow all on screen prompts and you will have a brand new machine set up within 30 minutes and your external that you can plug in and use.

Cloning, restoring etc. Once you have done the above without "reinstall MacOS" there shouldn't run in to any problems.

Having a new SSD you should preferably do clean installs and restore what is required. - You need to install 10.13 or newer.

I will reply back here after time on performance, use, how long it lasts etc.

Der Artikel ist gestern auf normalem Versandweg nach 24h angekommen.

Zu der Verpackung braucht man nicht viel sagen, alles ausreichend gut verpackt. Die SSD Festplatte ist bereits im Thunderbolt Gehäuse verbaut, wenn man sie direkt mit dem Gehäuse bestellt. Will man sie in den Macbook einbauen, muss man 4 Gehäuseschrauben lösen, die Befestigungsschraube der SSD lösen, und sie durch leichtes seitliches hin- und herbewegen herausnehmen. Im Set enthalten sind gleich die nötigen Schraubendreher, damit man das Macbook-Gehäuse und die Befestigungsschraube der SSD lösen kann.

Der Einbau der Festplatte ist sehr einfach und schnell. Macbook auf einer weichen Unterlage auf die Frontseite legen, Schrauben des Gehäusedeckels lösen, und Gehäusedeckel abnehmen. Mittig unter der schwarzen Kunststoff-Folie ist der Stecker vom Akku. Diesen sollte man unbedingt mit den Fingern vorsichtig und beidseitig nach oben Hebeln, bis er sich mit einem leichten "klick" löst. Danach schraubt man die Befestigungsschraube der internen SSD ab, und löst die alte SSD ebenfalls durch leichtes seitliches hin- und herbewegen, bis sie sich herausnehmen lässt. Die neue SSD wird dann vorsichtig eingeschoben, bis sie einrastet, sie kann dann verschraubt werden. Danach drückt man den Verbindungsstecker des Akku wieder an bis dieser leicht einrastet. Deckel wieder drauf fertig. Die alte Platte in das Thunderbolt-Gehäuse einbauen und verschrauben. Die alte SSD mit dem Macbook verbinden, da sich darauf das Minimalsystem für die Reperaturkonsole darauf befindet . Beim Booten des MacBooks dann CMD+R direkt nach dem Einschalten drücken um die Reperaturoptionen zu starten.

Hier hat man dann mehrere Möglichkeiten. Zum einen, kann eine Neuinstallation über das Web erfolgen. Man kann ein Timemachine-Backup von einem anderen Datenträger einspielen, oder den alten SSD Datenträger auf das neue Medium übertragen. Hier gibt und gab es auch bei mir so wie bei einigen anderen Leuten "Probleme" da die Wiederherstellung mit einem Fehler abbricht und der neue Datenträger nicht verwendet werden kann. Das ist auch normal, denn das neue SSD-Laufwerk muss vorerst richtig formatiert und partitioniert werden. Er lässt sich nicht auf Anhieb in APFS formatieren, dazu sind zwei weitere Schritte notwendig und es funktioniert nicht automatisch, weshalb es hier den Fehler gibt.

Man kann in der Reperaturkonsole das Festplattendienstprogramm starten. "Darstellung" links oben in der Ecke auf erweitert umstellen. In der Liste der Laufwerke links, wählt man den obersten Eintrag "TS960GJDM850 Media" für die neue SSD und löscht diese mit folgenden Optionen: Name: Ohne Titel/egal, Media: MacOS Ectended(Journaled) und GANZ WICHTIG Schema: GUID-Partitionstabelle und auf Löschen drücken. Hat man das gemacht, wird eine Container-Disc angelegt, in der sich eine 960GB Partition "Macintosh HD" befindet. Diese mit einem Rechtsklick über das Menü "in APFS konvertieren". Danach kann man zu der Reperaturkonsole zurückkehren und das System entsprechend übertragen, Time Machine-Backup einspielen etc. je nach Wunsch. ist der neue SSD-Datenträger formatiert, partitioniert und konvertiert gibt es überhaupt keine weiteren Probleme mehr.

Meine Transcend 855 960GB SSD werkelt nach knapp 2 Stunden mit Time Machine-Backup tadellos. Die Transcend JetDrive SSD ist wesentlich schneller als die Original-SSD, die jetzt im Thunderbolt Gehäuse ihren Platz hat.

Auf der Seite des Herstellers, gibt es detaillierte Angaben, in welche Macbook, Pro, Air etc. Modelle welches SSD Laufwerk verbaut werden kann und funktionieren sollte. Bei mir hat alles funktioniert und ich habe endlich vernünftig Platz für alle meine Daten und das, zu relativ überschaubaren Preis, wenn man sich die Original "Upgrade"-Preise mal anschaut.

Bin sehr zufrieden und kann es jedem empfehlen, der bereit ist bei kleinen "Fehlern" nicht gleich die Flinte ins Korn zu werfen und eine negative Bewertung mit dem Titel "Geht nicht!!!" zu schreiben, sondern ggf. das Mobiltelefon gleichzeitig in der Hand halten, um nach Lösungen zu suchen die es in diesem Fall sicher im Netz gibt. Ich wurde auch ein wenig mit dem Fehler überrascht und habe 5 Minuten gegoogelt, mit Erfolg.

NACHTRAG:
Relativ kurz nach der Installation der SSD in meinem Macbook Pro Retina 4K mid 2015 habe ich festgestellt, dass der Akku innerhalb von 2 Stunden unabhängig der Rechenintensivität leer und aufgebraucht war. Auf Dauer wollte ich das gerät nicht am Netzteil benutzen und habe mich entschieden die Festplatte im mitgelieferten Alugehäuse zu betreiben. Nach ungefähr einem halben Jahr hatte ich immer wieder das Problem, dass der Datenträger nicht ausgeworfen werden konnte da "Anwendungen" noch darauf zugreifen würden, obwohl es nicht der Fall war. Hier half leider nur ein reset des "Finders" oder das harte Trennen vom Thunderbolt-Port. Nach Kontakt mit dem Hersteller und der Diagnose mit dem Diagnosetool, hat mir der Hersteller lediglich bestätigt was sich schon ohnehin wusste und die defekten Dateien auf das unsachgemäße Trennen vom Rechner zurückgeführt. Doch leider kam es dann im weiteren Verlauf immer häufiger dazu, dass meine großen Fotoprojekte und teils 2-3 Gb großen Photoshop oder TIFF Dateien nicht mehr geöffnet werden konnten, obwohl ich diese nicht bearbeitet, verändert oder sonst angefasst hätte. Ich würde mir diese SSD für meinen Mac leider nicht noch einmal kaufen. Stunden an Retusche- und Fotoarbeiten wurden beschädigt. Das geht bei einem Preis von 400 € überhaupt nicht, und schon gar nicht, wenn sich der Hersteller weigert zu tauschen. Ich arbeite in der IT und kenne mich ein wenig mit der Materie aus. Schön, dass hier wenigstens auf AMAZON Verlass ist. Der Datenträger wurde gegen eine Gutschrift zurückgenommen und ich konnte bereits einen anderen kaufen. Hoffentlich habe ich hiermit etwas mehr Glück.

I've been repairing computers for more than thirty years now; this defeats me. In its own enclosure, it works fine, and is recognised by Mac OS as a drive, but when installed in the MacBook, it is not recognised as even existing. I've installed and uninstalled it five times now, and none of the attempts have worked.

Physical installation is not especially tricky, although the MacBook case screws are extremely small and easy to lose.

I suspect this is not a problem with the product itself, but Apple deliberately not recognising third-party devices. The device itself seems perfectly well engineered.

Very disappointed, but I cannot recommend this product.

I bought this SSD to upgrade one of my macbook airs at home. I first tried to clone the disk starting the mac in recovery mode and using disk utility/restore. It ended with an infamious OSStatus error 22. I tried the second method sugested on the manual: backup with timemachine and retore after. The new disk was not recognised on the Mac so it was not possible to restore from the backup... I then tried clone the original disk with Carbon Copy cloner - it finished with +- 32GB copied (of 110GB) with errors. I then started disk utility and performed a "first aid" on both disks (internal and the new one) - the first aid corrected some "issues" and I restarted again the disk cloning with CCC that failed again around 30GB of copy.... since CCC allows to send a report to support I opened a case and waited for support. After googling around I decided to tru SuperDuper! to clone the disk... that also ended with errors after +- 15GB of copy. I opened a case in transcend and the reply was far from useful.... I then received a mail from CCC that was helpful. The most important pre-requesit is to start in recovery mode and start a first aid in that mode. Then the disk utility was able to efectively correct errors that were causing erros on the copy. After that process, I started the macbook "normally" and cloned the disk with CCC - that finished normally - and everything worked as expected. I checked the 2 other macbook air that I have at home, and all of them had disk issues... so it is highly advisable to do this before starting the process and that was not mentioned anywhere.

2019.01.17: My daughter travelled to Macau for 6 months as a student, and unfortunatelly after a few days the Macbook air just died. She went to an Apple repair center where they identified that the motherboard had to be replaced. After my repair approval (+- 430eur) they refused to fix the laptop because the upgrade was not made by an Apple Official Repair Center. I called Apple support in Portugal (I live in Portugal), and they confirmed that they won't repair machines that were previously "changed/repaired/upgraded" in other places than in an Apple Oficial Support Center. She will buy a Microsoft Surface tomorrow and forget Apple and Mac for the time being....

Using this upgrade kit with Carbon Clone Copier Software (not included) made upgrading the SSD in my MacMini (late 2014) easy. The end to end process takes about an hour and a half. I bought it with the enclosure which simplifies the clone process and means you can use the old 256GB in the enclosure for plug in storage. The enclosure has the old squarish thunderbolt connections so you would be limited to certain older apple models. There are loads of videos online to explain the process of physically swapping out the drive and in the case of an SSD in the Mac Mini late 2014 model, its easy. The kit even has the required screwdrivers. Check that the existing drive in the Mac Mini is an SSD because they were sold with SSD's, HDD's, and fusion drives. All can be upgraded but you may need additional parts if say upgrading a HDD model with an SSD. In this case I believe and new cable connection is required. The information is out there and Google is your best friend. Little pricey but this is Apple.
