Purchased on 5/31, Arrived 6/09.
(9 Days) was free shipping over $49.
-Box arrived undamaged.
Upon opening the box, it had all components. Nicely individually wrapped. It included
-ASUS VIP Member Notice
-Quick Start Guide.
After taking everything out of the box it was EXTREMELY easy to assemble. I can't stress that enough, a 12 year old could figure it out. The cords had caps on them to prevent dust and bending of the pins but again were simple to take off.
On the back of the monitor, it had
-3.5mm audio port. (Needs input from HDMI cable)
After putting it all together, the final product was beautiful.
-It worked perfectly!
-There were no dead pixels.
-The colors were vibrant.
-The images and letters were sharp.
-The picture is just amazing.
-The quality is outstanding.
It was just perfect. I LOVE this product and I'm 100% completely satisfied with my purchase. I did not receive a discount for my review either.
I would DEFINITELY recommend.
UPDATE: It's been a month since I purchased it and still had no problems with it.
This is $79! I'm not sure why anyone would expect a $79 monitor to work for gaming or a newer model computer. It's not built for the speed or power possible with newer computers or games. For basic internet browsing, Youtube, FaceBook, emails, it's perfect.
- ONLY has a VGA plug. That's not a downside if you are using it with an older computer, because that's all older computers have with onboard graphics and not a video card.
- does not come with a power plug. I have a dozen laying around, so that was NP. It DOES come with a VGA cable, which is convenient, since few people have VGA cables laying around anymore.
The resolution is perfect for my purposes. Higher resolutions make the screen smaller, but I don't think they add anything to the look, and in some cases, will even make your screen blurry if you are using older software. Not a problem with this.
With an older and simpler system, this monitor doesn't skip a beat. I bought it to go with a refurbished HP computer, and could not be more pleased with the combo. An entire spare 'desktop' for less than $300! You CAN game, just not fast FPS modern or online games, but if you are playing FB games or minecraft or those types, it's plenty. Youtube videos work fine on it, and you can watch movies as well.
I think it's a GREAT deal for $79, and I would definitely buy it again. Hope that helps.
Price - Comparable e-IPS displays from other manufacturers are $200+ (see LG)
e-IPS panel - Viewable from virtually any angle
Matte display - Reflections from nearby lights do not impact the display. Great for nightime/sunlight users.
Negligible ghosting - 5ms response time combined with the built in Trace-free feature set to 60 eliminates most ghosting. This makes the monitor great for gaming and HD video watching. Only professional FPS players would need a higher response time.
Thin - Roughly the thickness of a MacBook Pro! Very slim on a desk or a mount
100mm VESA - Standard mounting holes w/ removable black rubber covers to hide the holes for users that prefer to rock the stand (blends in if not mounted)
Power efficient - 24-30 W after calibration
3 yr warranty/exchange: Asus will replace your monitor within 3 years and pay for shipping both ways. I haven't tried this myself, but I hear Asus customer service is above average for the industry.
Thinner than average bezel
Matte back - Has a carbon-fiber-like texture on the back that makes it look modern
No built in gamma correction - Must be adjusted using your video card
e-IPS - Unlike higher quality IPS panels there is a very small amount of color/gamma distortion if viewed at an angle. However it is still exponentially better than any TN panel. Higher quality panels that completely remove thus effect cost $400+ currently and only graphic designers/photo editors really need that level of color accuracy.
$40 more than cheap TN panels - Extra cost for the latest gen display. Better viewing angles and colors. You be the judge.
Recommended calibration settings:
Trace free: 60
These are the settings I came up with after calibration. They can be used as a starting point or ballpark figures if you don't feel like spending hours reading up on monitor calibration techniques. Your actual ideal monitor might vary slightly.
Best price/value monitor currently on the market <$200
