For the reviewer who said they needed 3 hands to put the sand paper into it, my condolences, because it was the easiest thing I've ever done. This person must not have realized how to work the mechanism. You push the little tabs (in black) at the top, and the red plastic lifts off about half and inch so you can slide in the sandpaper on both sides, very easy to do, then you just push it back in so that it tabs click in place.
That being said, for the price they work great.
There are a couple of options I've found for sizes that work. Ali/Gator Sandpaper makes 4-1/2" by 5-1/2" sheets that will fit perfectly. This is the recommended size. I have also found a roughly 3" by 7-1/4" strip will clamp in end to end (like in the 400 grit in my picture).
3M sells packs of 9" x 11" paper that you can cut each sheet into 4 pieces of 4-1/2" by 5-1/2" which works out good for the higher grits. And will allow you to make use of the whole sheet. I labeled mine for quick grabbing.
If you need a truly flat no holes sanding block I would recommend the rubber 3M one.
Pros: it’s cheap and the clips on top to replace paper are handy.
Cons: see picture. As another reviewer noted there are voids in the plastic under the sandpaper that create tears and consistency issues along the middle and down the slanted edge. You also can’t remove the top but have to slide the paper underneath each side, which I didn’t like, but that’s just preference.
