This pot is light and nice BUT it’s definitely not stainless steel. The lid is the worse, water and gets in between the knob and that create molds if you don’t take them apart and wash them. The nut that holds it together seems to be made with cheap aluminum because when you use a screwdriver on it, it peeled away. Spend your money on brands that you recognize, this is something cheap from China, worth $5.
Definitely poor quality. The first pot seemed rusty and had a scratch, so I changed for another one. The second one seemed better, but I doubt it was manufactured for industry use rather than food cooking. When I washed it for the first time, there was a lot of black matter that I didn't know what it actually was. I doubt if it's safe to eat food cooked in this pot.
Would have kept if it was large enough. Unlike some other reviewers, mine was not dented. It is however thin, and the screw used to fix the knob on the lid was pretty shoddy. Tightened by hand so didn't strip. If you don't soak it, water getting under the knob shouldn't be a problem. The metal is stamped really thin. Not sure if it is stainless steel, but it is made of a magnetic metal so it can be used with an induction stove. Didn't heat it though, so can't say much about the "staining" other reviews mention.
Purchased to make flan in a 10" Pyrex. Figured it would be OK since descript said that this pot was 11" diameter. Actual size is 10.75" with handles it's about 13.75" The most important measurement though is the cooking space of the steamer - it's diameter is 9.75"... Which is why I have to return D :
The feel of the set is very similar to one's sold in the Asian supermarkets, so the price on Amazon @ $25 is a little too high for this level of quality
Poorly manufactured products not as advertised. The steamer detail has cracks in the bottom inner radius over entire circumference and metallic stain. Above defects are caused by improper forming tooling or process. Small metallic chips are peeling off and may eventually mix with food causing poisoning or another health hazard. Steamer holes got sharp edges and were not deburred after manufacturing. Plastic handle detail smashed or broken. I am surprised that manufacturing quality control approved the defective product !!!???
I use this mainly for tamales and for steaming veggies. I like that it has a nice wide surface area (my last one was a bit too small). It cleans easily. The holes are a tad big. Sometimes small pieces fall through, but nothing unmanageable. Caution: It does sputter and splash water everywhere when the heat is too high and the water starts to boil-lower the heat.
I needed a steamer for wider dishes and pans and this item was perfect size and shape. Because it is flat and not as tall as many of the other steamer pot sets out there, it is a great size for 1-2 people households. The downside is that the bottom piece seems to be rusting a bit after I left water in the pot for a while. Also the lid knob and side handles get hot so always use gloves when handling. The lid knob is held on by a screw so I am worried it may rust in the future if water gets inside but haven't seen anything yet after a few months of use. I have not used it in the dishwasher though.
