Bugs and hair found in Shea butter

Originally I LOVED this. The Shea butter itself was great the couple times I used it. However, I then melted the whole brick down so I could store it in a container and I discovered some unfavorable things. There are a lot of particles and clumps of a gel like substance. This didn’t bother me as much because I thought these particles might’ve just been a result of it being a naturally derived product. However I also found small hairs and a dead bug in the Shea butter after melting it down. After reading others’ reviews I discovered others have also found dead flies in theirs as well! I liked the quality of the Shea butter itself but after seeing what’s in it after I melted it, I no longer feel comfortable using it to make lip balms for my customers.

Nutty smell stuck.

Truly dissatisfied and I wish I could get my money back but I've already made it. No matter how many drops of essential oils I put into this butter, the nutty/rancid smell will not leave and it just makes it seem like an overall bad product. I'm going to give away what I've made but I will never buy this shea butter from this seller again; let's hope it doesn't negatively affect my skin.

I took the best picture I could. I am very bothered by this purchase. I never leave reviews really. But I have a business that I have and I prefer quality in my ingredients. I melted my butter down just to find small organisms in them. I tried giving product benefit of doubt and melted down another portion to receive the same results. It has delayed me because I needed to fulfill a order. It does not say anywhere that I found that there may be bugs or organisms in there, if so I would not have purchased. For this statement I will go re-read the description and will follow up with another post if I have to. I’m just really hurt that this butter ended like this. It looks amazing in the packaging down to putting it in the melter just to reveal that it canno be used. Not only did I waste money with this purchase but I used my other oils that are no good now. Sorry for long post, I don’t like leaving bad reviews but this is by far my worst purchase.

BUGS IN BUTTER!!!

So while I was making my product I noticed it had bugs, yes bugs I was soo disappointed and disgusted. Before melting the touch of the butter is soft and creamy melts in hand and you can tell if it didn't have bugs it would of been a good batch. unfortunately you don't see the bugs until your skin deep into your project.. i.e once butter melts completely and you add your essential oils and things. once you start stirring, the bugs start floating. I felt I was seeing things until I pulled 3 out n just dumped the whole bowl of butter it was useless. I can't give my clients bug products, although I've heard bugs have good proteins in them. This girl isn't going to find out.
Buy at your own risk if you don't mind bugs in your products go for it

Buyer beware! Poor quality product.

I received the Shea butter on time as expected. It came in a foil sealed foil pouch with the bitter inside a clear plastic sealed bag. I was skeptical at first before ordering but decided to give it a chance. There are small noticeable black flecks through out the product and when melted down it appears to have dirt streaked through it. The butter is not uniform in color and doesn’t appear as thigh it was packaged in a clean facility. I canning in good conscience use this to make body butters. Do NOT buy this product.

The butter was very smooth and moisturizing, However there were BUGS all in the product. The bugs were visible through the plastic that the Shea butter was in! There’s no way the seller didn’t see. I make body butters for my business. I don’t want to sell something to my customers that have had bugs in it. Will not buy from this seller again

Pungent bad smell

The smell is so strong and nasty it gave me an instant headache. Ive purchased pre made organic shea butter with only essential oils prior and figured id make my own. No amount of essential oils and or coconut oil is masking the strong scent. Almost smells like alot of burnt hair. So gross. I might of gotten a bad batch or have strong nose receptors? but its currently sitting in my trash can. Shame and a waste of 10 bucks.

Second time I’ve ordered Shea butter through Amazon where the Shea butter smelled so bad both were unrefined but it has a plastic smell.

I am able to use the Shea butter that smells like plastic in certain products when I am blending several essential oil’s that covers up the plastic smell.

But now I’m trying to make lip balm and I just wanted a hint of vanilla essential oil plus sweetener to give it a very light scent and sweetness and I can’t seem to cover the plastic smell.

Because I’m making a lip balm and that is going to be on your lips closest to your smell and taste sensory’s it’s even more noticeable than if this is being used for somewhere else on your body such as your feet or your knees or anywhere else on your body.

From learning more about Shea butter I believe what I have is probably the rancid smell.

I think moving forward I am going to try to find a more reputable supplier.

I do feel like I am wasting more of my essential oil in flavor oil to try to mask the smell than what would even be needed for the level of flavor and smell I’m trying to achieve with my lip balm.

If anything I will have to use the remaining Shea butter to make items that go on your body and maybe even lip scrub that basically ends up getting washed off of your lips vs A lip balm that would stay on your lips and you would keep reapplying throughout the day.

I know raw shea butter has a distinct odor, but this is smack you in the face disgusting. I usually buy refined, but gave this unrefined a shot. Glad I only bought 1lb of it.

Despite my reservations, I made a body butter with it, figuring my fragrance oil would cover up the smell. I came back to it today and opened the container, and it smells like a sweaty armpit. Very sharp and pungent. I presume I can't get a refund since I used 7oz of the 16oz to make my product with. All has to be tossed in the trash. I am not even going to attempt to soap with it because I think it is bad/rancid.

Feel free to buy this product if you want to smell like gangrene.
