I've been using raw shea butter for a couple of years now and this is unlike any of the other blocks of shea I've purchased. But in a good way! I've always wondered why the other blocks were so hard, when shea butter looks soft when it's extracted. This block was soft and felt more silky to the touch,
I'm taking away a star because the packaging isn't resealable and it doesn't look like much effort went into it, but the product itself is extremely legit!
If you’re still thinking about it, BUY IT and you won’t have regrets. I’ve had my runs with Shea butter from different sellers, being African and having used Shea butter my family have made, I KNOW SHEA BUTTER and this stuff is it. The moisturizing is 10/10, I use this product to make my body butter and with the combinations of different oils it’s the perfect skin moisturizer. Definitely will be using more in the future.
I was first intimadated when I found out I had to bring it to a certain temp and keep it there for a bit, then strain it, but all of the work was worth it. It turned out just fine. I added coconut butter and a bit of grape sead oil and the consistency was very nice. I added essential oils to this, and was very happy with the results. Am ordering 5 more pounds today.
Bought this for use in my homemade cold process soaps. Haven't used it yet, but I will say that I'm very familiar with unrefined shea butter, and this product seems to live up to expectation. It's consistency, color and smell are as they should be, and putting it on my scale, it did come out to exactly 16oz (1lb.) in weight (not factoring packaging). Item is as described and price was extremely reasonable (considering I was paying $6 for only 6oz previously, I'm very happy with the price of this item). I don't see there being any issues with this product, and I'm confident it'll do just fine in my soap recipes. Will definitely order again as needed. UPDATE: This unrefined shea butter is the real deal! Don't know why anyone would pay more for the exact same product, as this is top quality shea butter. Used it in my cold process soap recipe this evening and it behaved exactly like the more expensive stuff I had been wasting my money on (seeing as it's the exact same thing). It was no problem for me going out to the dollar store and buying a glass jar to transfer this from the bag to, so I will absolutely be purchasing my shea butter from this company again. Very happy with this excellent quality, real-deal product! Especially since now I know I can purchase it at such a fair price for the amount sold. And just to let ppl know, if you've never used raw, unrefined Shea butter before, no, it doesn't smell "pretty", and that's normal (although, I'm fond of its earthy smell myself!). I've seen a lot of low ratings on this product simply because it smelled "gross" or "horrible". To the first-time raw shea butter user, you might find the smell to be not what you were expecting, or a little off-putting, but I guarantee that this product is EXACTLY as it should smell (at least MY order was). I think people get so used to using heavily perfumed beauty products that it knocks them for a little bit of a loop when they realize that nothing straight from nature smells that synthetic. You'll get used to the smell when you make the switch to all natural products (and even learn to love them), and if you're using this for homemade soaps, no, the smell does not transfer to your soaps, especially when used in combination with essential oils, which shea butter blends beautifully with!
Today is the first time using the shea butter. I'm making a small batch of lip balm as cold weather is quickly approaching. It melted easily and seems fine. Was wrapped in plastic that was sealed with tape. The whole bag was then heat sealed in a mylar type bag. There was no odor or discoloration of the butter when I opened the package. I would buy this again.
I would return this if it weren't already too late. First, I had to triple filter the debris out after it's melted in order to use it. It looks like there are pepper flakes in it, but who knows what it is. I used this to make cold process soap and something was NOT right. I have been making soap for over 10 years and have not had these results. Something is wrong with this. I'm not sure it's 100% shea butter. I'm SO disappointed!!!! What a waste of money and my other products.
Used to buy from another place, but they stopped selling organic unrefined Shea butter. SO GLAD I found this one! I bought the 4 lb pack and it came in two 2 lb blocks super convenient since I gave half to my coworker! I personally like the nutty smell, so I LOVED it. You can tell by the color and texture that this is in fact unrefined, raw Shea butter. It’s gritty, yet melts when in contact with body heat. And anyone who knows real Shea butter, it’s nkt going to be a perfect white color - the color varies from a darker yellow to a lighter yellow. Will buy again when I run out!
I use this for: Body lotion (obviously haha) Hair masks Lip balm Mixed with essential oils for an aromatic hand salve
SMELLS RANCID !!!! It came packaged horribly, it looked odd (greenish tint). It is a dark brownish green when melted! Soapers beware it turns soap color and smells badly AND has debris floating in it ....specs of floating objects when fully melted! NEVER put this in soap, lotion, or any cosmetic product. When you melt it is has tons of debris in it . SUPER disappointed !
This is my second and LAST order from this company. The first order was white, fluffy and had a mild pleasing scent. This order is yellow/grey, grainy and smells like cocoa butter! It is NOT the same product. I make clear melt and pour soap and need a white oil for it. Using a yellow oil absolutley RUINS the finished product as it leaves a yellow tint. Im keeping it because I can use it in my cold processed soaps, it is not rancid...but it is also not 100% shea butter. I will be looking elsewhere in the future. Do not buy this product unless you don't mind inconsistent and possibly altered shea butter! I added a picture of the 1st batch and the 2nd (bad) batch I recieved. CLEARLY not the same in quality. I am HIGHLY disappointed.
