I started yoga due to lockdown of COVID19. Was using a cheap 10mm gym mat. Found that i needed a thinner mat for more stability with poses as i got more into yoga but still with some cushioning for knees and back. After reading a number of reviews both on and off amazon i bought a Manduka pro 6mm and Gaiam 6mm to compare. Plan to use one at home and the other in the office to "re-charge" during lunchtimes when we head back to office. Manduka more firm but still cushions. Gaiam cushions well. Manduka pro size also more generous than Gaiam, but it is heavier so not as portable. Manduka can be slippery if you have sweaty palms but I don't so it works for me. I also did not need to do the salt prep to improve grip, it was grippy enough from the start. Manduka did not have any odor, unfortunately Gaiam has a strong unpleasant chemical smell that i hope will eventually go away. Overall Manduka wins (five star) for me and worth the extra $$ but Gaiam is ok (3 star) too.
