The set arrived within 48 hrs in perfect condition. Easily set up and connected to my home WiFi without any hitches and it works perfectly. Much improved from my original Arlo system and the best feature is it’s improved rechargeable battery which is supposed to last for up to 6mths per charge. Of course that remains to be seen as my system is only 3 weeks old.

- sometimes it doesnt pick up and record motion

For the price, i expected more considering there are a lot cheaper cams out there. The.video lag is very disappointing. You are just basically paying for the completely wireless cam. Apart from that, there is nothing that takes this apart from other cheaper products.

The Arlo Pro 2 is a great bit of kit, not as good as the Arlo Ultra but then that's in a completely different price bracket. A lot of people as why I would purchase this over a wired system with a DVR and there are many reasons for this. Firstly, convenience. You can be up and running in no time at all and you don't need lots of technical knowledge as it's easy to get going. Secondly, no running of cables around your house and not having to have a DVR locally is a massive plus for me as I just can't be bothered doing this.

Yes the Arlos aren't cheap but they also don't pretend to be. The app is great and has things like geofencing, push notifications and lots of other nice little touches in there to get it how you like it to behave. The system can be accessed anywhere using a web browser and access can be designated to others if necessary. Another consideration is the ongoing cost. The basic plan that is free will give you seven days of motion-triggered recordings but then with the Arlo Pro 2, you can subscribe to a CVR (continuous video recording) which is 6.99 a month with discounts if you have multiple cameras. CVR does not work on the Arlo HD or the orignal Arlo Pro for the record. You will also need your camera powered 24/7 so you will need to run a power cable for that so it helps to know if you can do this easily before you purchase and plan on using CVR.

A big positive foe me is that this is a fully modular system which makes it easy to expand your system should you want to at a later stage. I've since purchased the Arlo doorbell and Arlo chime which work together with your cameras and the integration into the ecosystem is very good. There is integration with Google Home (Nest) and Amazon Alexa available (I believe there is more functionality available with Amazon Alexa at the moment) so these are all positives. Some of the other manufacturers at the moment are staying with either Google or Amazon, i.e. Ring and Amazon work together, so right now the Arlos are a better fit in case I ever change. There are also loads of official accessories available which tend to be a little on the expensive side although they are very good quality.

For me right now, the Arlo Pro 2 is the best of the Arlo products to buy. It has all of the functionality I require, optional CVR if I need it, better quality video and it also has 3 second 'look back' which will show you the first 3 seconds of video before a motion alert was triggered if you are not on a CVR plan which for me is important. The Arlo Pro is good but the Pro 2 isn't massively more expensive and has a lot more functionality. The ultras are too expensive right now and the original Arlos are restricted by their ongoing battery costs (they use CR123 batteries which are expensive long term) and they don't have a picture quality that comes anywhere near the Pro 2.

These are very good pieces of kit.

Better than expected - but night time vision is not great

I've read what feels like hundreds of very mixed reviews for these cameras but eventually decided to take the plunge with an Amazon Warehouse deal (advertised as opened with cosmetic damage - but was in perfect, unopened condition so seems I got a bargain!)

SETUP:
They are incredibly easy to set up. I was a bit nervous about the magnetic mount, but it feels really sturdy - we live in a very windy spot, no problems at all with them (apart from wind noise on the microphone).

I installed over a window for ease of access - I went for above the 1st floor windows for security (our barn conversion did not make for a particularly tall house, installing below the upper floor windows could be knocked off by a broom handle or similar so went for the added security of higher up).

This means the viewing angle is a bit higher than ideal (especailly for facial detail, perhaps), but on the other hand I get to see a wider field of vision.

BATTERY:
The reason I installed over a window was for access for battery charging. I won't lie - battery life was one of the main concerns I had. My cameras have been installed for over 2 months so far. The back garden view is still showing as 54% power and has not been recharged yet But then, it's light usage - usually the kids or dog running around, the occasional fox in the middle of the night etc.

The front camera has just been charged for a 2nd time (each time I charged when it got to about 25% left), so about a month's life. I've been very surprised at how often this camera is triggered - it's pointed only at our drive so no passing traffic, but kids, delivery men, cars, foxes etc... average of 30+ hits a day, sometimes significantly more.

So it's clear that battery life is driven by activity (unsurprisingly), but charging is quick and based on the installation location it's a doddle to replace the camera.

USAGE:
the video kicks in very quickly (e.g. if a car arrives the video starts with the full bonnet on the picture - so a split second delay). Notifications on the iPhone come through very quickly too, I guess this will vary according to broadband speed - I get about 7mbps upload, usually the notification comes through almost instantly.

However - to watch "live" you then need to open the arlo app (with a thumb print on an iphone, other brands are allegedly available) - this takes a little while, and another little while to start up the live view - which IMHO means the potential for live interaction with a visitor is impacted somewhat. There's also a short delay before the recording appears in the feed.

The voice interaction is also a bit delayed. It's reasonably loud, but you couldn't, e.g. have a conversation (have to hold down the microphone button whilst you're talking). It's OK - but I can't see it being a much-used feature. on the other hand, the sound recording on the video clips is much better than i'd expected.

Video quality is very good in the daytime. Easy to zoom in and out (noting it's a digital zoom so you lose detail) to get a better view of what's happening.

Night vision is not great, TBH. It's massively helped when security lights come on at the same time (even fairly dim / ambient outside lights help - full security lights are strong enough to trip the recording into daylight mode).
Without lighting, it would pick up motion but I doubt you've be able to pick out many details of a potential burglar.

OVERALL:
very good system, with better night vision would be 5 stars.

definitely made me happier about home security - fortunately we haven't had to test it properly against unwanted intruders (the siren is piercing inside the house!) but in 2 months it's picked up some strange behaviour from delivery drivers (e.g. one searched around for SEVEN minutes (including scaling a gate into the back garden) to leave a parcel before spotting a storage box right outside the front door). All innocent, but this makes you realise how much goes on when you're at work!

Overall - very pleased with it, but for the price (and especially at the full normal price) I would expect better night time performance.

It's a nice idea, a wireless CCTV camera that works at night and outdoors, but unfortunately the product is just too unreliable to be a proper security system.
I agree with the other reviewers who say that it is not ready for market; I don't know whether it is the hardware, the software or Arlo's servers, but this product isn't good enough to give you peace of mind.
I'm sure there are people who have this working fine, but I suspect most of those are indoor users.
I've had both a Pro and a Pro 2 and have had the following issues:
* Base going offline everyday for 40 minutes even though all other devices are connected to the internet fine
* Base timezone resetting to PST instead of GMT every day meaning video recordings are timestamped at 2AM and not where you expect to find them
* Motion detection not picking up motion
* Video stopping recording in the middle of motion
* Video not recording properly; smearing, pixelation, green video
* Video not recording audio for the first second of a clip
* Video framerate low and jerky
* Arlo app not connecting to the camera so must be restarted before it will work
* Arlo website not showing icons properly, not showing number of new clips, not showing last update time, motion detection icon stuck on with no motion
* Arlo website library now does not update when a new clip arrives meaning you have to back out of the library and go back in to see updates (it used to be that the library updated in real time when a new clip arrived)
* Live view of the camera timing out during viewing
* Live view after motion recording started timing out

Arlo support generally tell you to 'switch it off and on again' without really addressing the underlying issues, or if pressed will send out replacement hardware. The problem being, the replacement hardware is reconditioned and will present you with a new issue.
And it will cost you £15 if you want a replacement to be sent before sending back your faulty hardware. Unless you want to be without your security system that you have grown used to for a week. Processing the return on the web also doesn't work meaning you will get charged but the return won't go through
My running total is 4 Pro cameras, 3 bases and 2 Pro 2 cameras, and I still don't have a reliable system.
The latest support agent ended up telling me that the camera was 'not fit to work in my environment' because I was using it outdoors and my house is made of bricks!
When I pointed out that there is no mention of a normal UK house not being a valid environment in the product description, he informed be that there were multiple web articles on their site and that most customers contact Arlo before purchasing and ask how they work.
'With a brick house it is expected not to work and is not recommended'. I'm not sure what Arlo are expecting our houses to made out of, straw maybe?

So if you live in a wooden house, use the cameras indoors infrequently and have no neighbours with WiFi it might work for you. Otherwise, be warned.

Update: Arlo have now enforced two-factor authentication, whether you want it or not.
This wouldn't be so bad if you could do something as simple as set your laptop as a trusted device. I use two laptops throughout the day to monitor recordings, but Arlo in their genius have made it so that you can only trust the app (which I don't use (and only if you have notifications enabled?!?!?)).
So the upshot of this is that I need to switch to email every 30 minutes to type in a code to authenticate my laptop. Even if I am constantly using the website, it will still timeout. And it is not even possible to copy and paste this code. Because no-one at Arlo cares about usability.
I clearly have nothing better to do with my time than waste it on this pointless task.
And now my camera is reporting the battery is always at 1%, even with a freshly charged battery. Looking at the forums, this is not an uncommon issue.

Nifty as indoor camera

What I like about the system
* Out of the box, the setup and pairing was simple, just follow the setup wizard from mobile app.
* Uncluttered app - arm/disarm the camera, scheduling, sorted video clips, as essentials
* Never experience false motion and voice detection so far.
* Third party integration - I’ve had my system interface with smart lighting triggered by Arlo motion sensor thru IFTTT.
* The base station’s built-in siren is pretty loud.
* Video quality is decent though looks compress, I could still recognise facial cues at distance of 5 meters, 130 degree field of view seems to be just right to have full coverage for a square layout room, with camera place in one corner. Night vision facial shots are not that good as it is. Have a hard time recognising facial cues or feature in pitch black but will do.
* 2 way microphone allows me to communicate with the person in the other end.

What seems to be off putting.
* Lag in detection and recording. A few seconds could allow an intruder to dart past the camera without being captured.
* Look-ahead video buffering and activity zone feature are only available if cameras are connected to power cable. This makes it not really a true wireless system. And Netgear only bundled 1 cable for 2 camera system.
* Not so great battery life (a week of use drops the charge to 60%). Long vacations? Connect it to power.
* The cameras can’t be turn-off unless you remove the battery
* Really expensive, though not having monthly fee is an option (fee is for cloud storage or if you’ll have 5 or more cameras o.O).
* Limited system - Arlo system is primarily camera, so if you need door sensor, outdoor siren, smoke/heat sensor, you have to go to another vendor, which probably mean another base station to wire and maintain.
