I assumed that, because this one is over $110 more than the smaller white mop by iRobot, it would be better. No ma'am!
This mop makes cleaning the floors ten times more tedious and 15 times less effective than just grabbing the Swiffer Wet Jet. Actually, since you can only put water in this, it's nowhere near as good.
While the smaller, cheaper, white version iRobot Braava jet 240 Mopping Robot - Robotic Mop sprays cleaning fluid/water out in front of it and mops it up (like a wet jet), this version does not. It just smears a TINY amount of water out of the leak hole in the water cavity. That holds almost nothing anyway. The only way I can actually get the floors wet enough is to soak the pad itself before I put it on the mop. Then, ten minutes later, its dried out again and I have to stop the robot and take off the pad and wet it again. Meanwhile, the water cavity has 85% of the water still in it.
Streaks galore on my wood floors. Don't get streaks with a Wet Jet.
The small white one works with an app on my smartphone. For $100 more, does this one? NO!
The cheaper white version has a vibrating head to scrub dirt and any stickiness from spills off. For $100 more, this one just smears dust over any any sticky spots and makes them dark!
The white, cheaper version automatically knows whether to do wet mopping, damp mopping, or dry sweeping. For $100 more, this crap version doesn't know what to do unless you tell it.
The cheaper, white version has three cleaning modes: wet, damp, dry. For $100 more, you get the subtracted benefit of only two modes: dry and "dry with a small wet streak down the middle"
Sadly, the Braava is basically a robotic Swiffer.
If your floors are already clean and you want routine touch-ups, then this probably will work. Also, it seems to help if you have a rectangular kitchen...without a table.
If you’re like us with young kids (read = crumbs everywhere), a kitchen table with booster seats, and an island that the navigation system doesn’t like, then this mop won’t cut it.
The Scooba would vacuum the crumbs, spray clean solution, brush scrub the area, then suction & squeegee the path of the dirty water, and that’s where Braava just doesn’t match up with just a damp mop cloth pushing debris around.
Also, it seems like the cleaning pattern of the Braava isn’t nearly as effective as the Scooba. The Scooba would take about 45mins to clean our ENTIRE kitchen, and I’ve just watched the Braava going back and forth in the same area, ~1/4 of the kitchen, for 45mins.
Also, the Braava comes with a Navigation Cube and it still can’t seem to figure out where to clean (the Scooba had no problem, even without a Navigation Cube).
Sadly, because iRobot no longer makes Scoobas, we just had to buy a used one on an online auction site.
The device itself is very quiet. Sometimes it will bump a door or something that will make a little noise but that's it.
It gets under pretty much everything. Frankly, it gets under more stuff than I ever did.
It charges fast. In about 2 hours it's ready to go again.
You need more than just the one pad it comes with. I would recommend at least one pad for every room for every day of the week. A fresh pad is like a new mop. If you only have one pad you'd have to wash it by hand or wait for it in the washer between uses and that is just more work than just mopping stuff yourself. You can't really use it the way it needs to be used with just the single pad it comes with.
Also get some dry swiffer pads and wet swiffer pads. The dry pads are quilted and seem like they do a better job than the cloth pads. the wet pads are handy for super quick cleans or stuff you really, really don't want to touch.
My one of my rooms is slightly larger than what it states the max range of the mop is but furniture (that it doesn't fit under), cabinets and stuff like that cuts down on the area. I can actually run it twice in that room on a single charge (it will run out of water though).
It occasionally gets stuck. it has a slight wedge shape to it. It's not hard to make it avoid problem areas though. place an obstacle in its way or hold down the mop or sweep button to get it into fast mode where it avoids stuff. I think if it was not at all wedge shaped it would avoid a lot of where it gets stuck.
It doesn't bother my dogs. It's quiet and they're used to it. Sometimes it will sneak up on them even, bumping them with humorous results.
Anyway I really like it. It's probably my favorite thing ever. It gives me a clean floor every night and gave me back a large portion of my weekends. I waited a long time for one with more range and eventually just settled for this one. I didn't need to. When I think back to all the moping I did myself and all the dirt I put up with waiting for the weekend to mop I feel like I wasted a lot of time. I would love an improved model but I'm very happy with this one.
Update: I had to replace the battery a couple months ago because mine wasn't charging. I opted for a Powerextra High Capacity one. It was pretty cheap and really increased the range. I'm actually happy that It stopped working because the extra range really speeds stuff up.
Also, I tried putting Nature's Miracle Dog Stain and Odor Remover in the mop reservoir because it's enzymatic like the iRobot scuba solution. So far that's working pretty well. I've been doing it for several months and I haven't noticed any of the damage to the tires like people mentioned with Lysol or other products.
