Insightful and interesting. Matthew ball has summed up the history, current state, challenges, the possible way forward and the future of Augmented, Virtual and Mixed reality. Highly recommend for those wanting to understand the future of gaming/society and the Metaverse as a whole!
I read this book "The Metaverse, And How It Will Revolutionize Everything" over the weekend (I know I know, I'm such a nerd.) I was really blown away. It is as fun as watching a movie unfold before my eyes. It was equality intellectually fulfilling to my mind.
Metaverse has been in many of our vocabularies this past year. Many people have different definitions and interpretations of the Metaverse. Some say that we are already there, some say that we are decades away. Some people are overzealous about it, some are still skeptical and critical of it. Matthew Ball's book provides a comprehensive view that will appeal to many people.
I liked that the book gave us some historic context of technology to set the stage for the future we are embarking on. It also talks about the technologies still being built to enable a future world.
The book is quite objective. Not only does it paints the potential future and how the various industries: Education, Fitness, Work, Dating, Fitness, Entertainment, etc. will be impacted by the Metaverse and its enabling technologies, but it also addresses the issues that still need to be resolved: policy, technology, etc.
The book goes into great detail on 3 main parts:
(1) What is the Metaverse (2) Building the Metaverse (3) How The Metaverse will Revolutionize Everything.
The key takeaways that I fully agree with are: 👉 We are just at the beginning of this journey, and there's still a long way to go in building a movie-like metaverse that many envision it to be. 👉 We are not going to be suddenly there, like a step function. We will evolve into it. 👉 The metaverse will disrupt many industries with new experiences and business models. We may even create new industries.
In sum, this was a very enjoyable book for anyone to read. It is also very useful for those who are in the industry working on the challenges and opportunities ahead of us.
I read this book a week after it came out after it was recommended to me by a few people. I was pretty skeptical given the hype around the term but I was very happily surprised. Whether or not you are personally excited about the metaverse, you will come away with a much better understanding of all of the technology you use today and how different companies are trying to improve it. I also now understand why so many people are trying to build this metaverse and why we don't need to focus on whether we like Mark Zuckerberg or Facebook. I also feel like I understand how the metaverse will not just be a game, but also involved in marketing, schools, gyms and more aspects of our lives. Really recommend for those who are interested in the topic, as well as those who want to learn why others are.
I have read many of the so called books on the Metaverse… navigating the MV, understanding the MV…. None of them comes close to the research, insight, clarity of thought, MECE, and inspiration provided by Matthew Ball.
Overall the book which I've been reading is definetly worth reading it highlights the coming metaverse technologies that will change the world. Its incredibly detailed and easy to understand the core concepts the author is trying to explain. I'm gonna recommend this book to my friends and people with similar interests. Its a great book and I recommend it to other amazon customers aswell who would probably enjoy it.
Ganz hervorragendes Buch. Fakten statt Hoffnung.
